You might need to enable ‘Portamento’ on the ST. It’s on the ‘TRIG’ page IIRC.
Yes it’s on. If I play overlapping notes it will trigger.
I’ve tried to search for a solution but it appears the Oxis glide function only works via CV? Hope I’m wrong though.
If not I guess poly mode is the best workaround…?
On the OG OXI One glide is a CV-only function so it won’t work over MIDI.
Don’t know if this is different on OXI One Mk II.
To get glide when OXI is controlling ST you’ve got a couple of choices. Either let the ST handle ON/OFF & portamento time, or send it via MIDI.
To let the ST handle it just turn portamento on in the trig menu of the relevant track in the ST and adjust the portamento time. You can P-LOCK these settings on the ST as well.
To send over MIDI, you use the sequencer to send note data (as you usually would) and then use the MOD lanes to send portamento ON/OFF and/or portamento time.
Press MOD to go to the MOD lanes.
Press SHIFT & then press the encoder you want to use to send portamento control.
The top item should say "CC DEST: " and then a number.
Press the encoder again and you’ll get a list of MIDI CC messages you can send.
Select the appropriate CC value then press the encoder.
It should return to the previous menu and now say "CC DEST: " followed by the number you just selected.
Press BACK to return to the MOD lanes.
Portamento ON/OFF is CC 65.
OFF is CC amount 0-64.
ON is CC amount 65-127.
Portamento time is CC 9.
That works for me on the DN II.
ST’s MIDI CC values are identical to DN II and I expect they’ll work exactly the same way.
Edit You can do the same thing when the OXIs in MULTITRACK mode as well.

I was just messing around with the Poly mode and got lost in the flow, time just disappeared haha… It does feel like a nice alternative for mono synths as well.
I’m no longer with the Oxi but I’ll try this the next time I get the chance. Haven’t touched the mod lanes yet so this will be a good opportunity

Been following along this thread for a little while now. I own the Oxi One and have a number of Elektron devices and really gel with the Elektron sequencer, but noticed it isn’t always the best at capturing and playing back chords and not very good with long and smooth automation.
I haven’t quite gelled yet with the Oxi One and want to understand how people are using it along with their Elektron setups. I know there are some overlaps in sequencer functionality, so it would be helpful for me to know what configurations that people here find has been good for their workflow. Has the Oxi One filled some of the gaps of the Elektron sequencer for you? Are you using it for Live or just in the studio?

I use poly seq and just have overlapping notes, works wonders, why you are hesitant to try it?

I have both an OT and AR mk1, I also have modular and a couple of other synths. I use mine in the studio and now write almost entirely with the Oxi. I use 2 multi-track sequencers to manage the Elektron’s and have found there are enough trig conditions and sequencer tricks to satisfy my needs. I find it easier to set up polyrythms etc. on the Oxi, the OT used to be the ‘brain’ of my system, now all this and more his handed over to the OXI. I am still learning, I’ve found it very useful to load the manual into Notebook LLM and ask it questions when I’m stuck; hunting down answers on forums when this doesn’t work. I’ve found it really enjoyable and I’ve only really scratched the surface of the Oxi. I’ve also converted sets for live and sequenced and modulated a Sleepy Circuits Hypno 1 for visuals - worked really well!!

For music work, I’ve been mainly focused on using my existing Elektrons and song mode to prepare sets for playing live. I now have a little more time to deal with the learning curve of a new device, but haven’t felt that the few hours I’ve put into going through the manual and tutorials has paid off yet.
I’m curious what people are using for the master clock and routing… and if playing chords from an external controller translates better on Oxi One than it does when attempting to play chords into the Elektron sequencer from an external controller.

It sounds like you treat the Oxi as the main brain and aren’t using any features on the Elektron sequencers… just using them essentially as sound sources, correct?
I’m very comfortable with Elektron but still learning the Oxi so the workflow might evolve.
I LOVE Elektrons for rhythmic sequencing (I make beat focused music) but always felt that it was a bit of a challenge for me to program melodies. It doesn’t help that I’m not a music theory expert or fluent on the piano either…
So this is how I’m using it currently. Program the beats in the Elektron(s) and then melodies/harmonies in the Oxi. This way I can still have that close integration of the Elektron sequencer and it’s sound generation, P-locks, sample locks, patterns etc for the drums.
I might still start the process in the couch with just 1 Elektron because I like the feeling though
Hehe as mentioned I did try it, that’s when I got in the flow It’s definitely something I’ll keep doing, but I still want to explore the other method of the Mono sequencer + Mod lanes. I like the feeling of Mono since you can just tap in stuff quickly and have overlapping notes clear automatically. The Random generator will probably work better as well
I have a more general question to Oxi Users: How are you managing your overarching projects in more machines? I work with one drum machine, one synth and the Oxi. Are you saving everythig under the same file name on every machine for itself or are you hardcoding some kind of program changes directly into the Oxi patterns to load up correct patches on the machines? Thanks!

This. My system is, 1) create new project on Tonverk, save project with new name. 2) Create new project on Oxi, save with exactly the same name as the project on Tonverk.
That way I know that as long as I load the same project on each respective device, I’ll be good to go.
If I end up adding another Elektron box to the mix (probably a Syntakt), I’ll just extend the same system to that additional Elektron box.
Only takes a few seconds at the beginning of a new project and makes life so much simpler from there on.

yes, essentially I sequence everything on the OXI now. It took me a while to set up externally sequenced sample slices on the OT, but found that out on forums etc.
I’m really keen on this idea to ditch my Oxi and have tonverk sequence itself and my vst/synths, have you explored this use case? Or you just want the gen stuff on oxi, which is lacking on the elektron sequencer?
I think the Oxi One Mk2 is a much better hardware sequencer than any Elektron box. That’s not to throw shade on Elektron at all because as an all-in-one box (sound generation and sequencer combined) I still think Elektron are top notch.
The key point here is the Oxi is purely a hardware sequencer - that’s all it does - and as such i think logically it has to have capabilities that outstrip what can be achieved with something like an Elektron box.
There are some aspects of the Oxi that are pretty compelling like the multitrack view of a drum track, the super deep and complex chord generation mode, all of the other generative tools (stochastic etc) and the performance mode with real-time generative drum fills and drum looping and real-time melodic track transposition and harmonisation. You can’t get those tools on the Tonverk or any other Elektron.
But Oxi + Tonverk? Massively capable.
