The function buttons in the MKII have an improved backlight (always on with multiple brightness levels, the OG had only two modes: on and off)
Thats good to hear. The backlight was quite bright on mine and then couldnt make out the secondary function text in the dark
Although this seems to not be the case for the OXI MK2
.It’s pre-tax price at my local shop is the same as the OXI website. The rest of their line up is priced as you describe it. Interesting that they’ve changed pricing on this new one only
That’s a shame, honestly. Serves as a reminder that we’re all different, as well. My eyesight is really bad, but perhaps it somehow makes me better able to distinguish the black pads than the white ones!
Preordered the nostalgia one at Thomann tonget those 3 year warranty.
Indeed, things have improved for the mk2. Still a bit unorthodox to set a price instead of just removing the Spanish VAT, but probably easier for them to manage things this way.
wow Manu’s jam (the middle one around 36:00) was excellent, real Ame / Rodhad playatech vibes. Crazy how all of that’s coming out of 2x Corals.
If i had 2k € laying around i’d love to put together a little 100% Oxi setup like that
Good news, everyone!
Oxi One fits perfectly on top of the Nord Wave’s little empty corner.
Bad news is I haven’t felt this creatively murdered in a long time. Anybody have any quick tips or must try features before I pack it up and sell it onwards? I absolutely detest the idea of generative music making but maybe I’m just missing a certain something to make it fun, interesting and musical, and this seem like a good tool to explore that realm a bit.
I mainly bought it for easier drum programming on my Nord Drum 3P but I think I’ll just stick with Octatrack and Ableton for now.
I love using the Oxi One with my Nord Drum 2, such a perfect sequencer for the wonderful sounds of the Nord. The way the Nord reacts to velocity is so pleasing.
I suggest learning how the Multi mode sequencer works on the Oxi One - assigning a row per Nord Drum channel - and playing with the start/end points, track divisions and play direction. Then using a second track as a Mono sequence, choosing a scale and using the generative sequencer to come up with something pleasing. From there, try adjusting the Random Perform parameters to play with the probability, the chance of playing octaves up/down and retrigs. Then get a Chord track going to sequence beautiful chords that follows the notes of the Mono sequence. Then using the LFOs to change the pitch, chord type, adding arpeggios, strums… Really, there’s nothing I’ve used quite like the Oxi One for coming up with generative and awesome sequences.
Dusted off my Mk1. Oh god I’d forgotten what a baffling mess the arranger mode was. Just let me chain 2 or 3 patterns together! And if I don’t remember save the project every time I change to a different pattern, I lose my work!? WTF.
Was it always this clunky or have I missed something obvious?
The arranger has always been a grating experience for me. It just doesn’t work the way my brain works.
100% this.
It’s a real struggle and I can’t align it with my mental model. I’ve used some baffling arrangers and sequencers like the MC-707 and they still were easier to grok.
So this pattern saving thing - I checked the manual and didn’t see any auto-save option, meaning there’s no way to quickly jump between a couple of patterns while you work on them without awkwardly remembering to save each time?
I really hope this has been addressed in Mk2 or I’m being a massive idiot (again) and just using it wrong
Its one aspect thats not been shown property yet on MKII but supposed to be improved. Maybe they are still tweaking the new arranger and we will get proper insight soon.
Sometimes I want to build on an existing midi track that I have in Ableton, throw it in the Oxi somehow and then use the Oxi to edit that midi sequence.
Is there a way to do anything like that, like importing a midi file or recording midi from the daw to the Oxi?
At the moment I’m just recreating things on the Oxi maually and struggling to get some things right when matching a daw midi sequence
Recording into the Oxi One is possible. MIDI import is not currently possible, but it will be made available with the next firmware update for mk1.
has anyone mentioned instant pattern change as an option in the mk2? (or new mk1 firmware for that matter)
Demo from Manuel at superbooth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0aJ-m9tt7E with a first look at the groove and scale editor starting at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0aJ-m9tt7E&t=1000s
So disregarding the arranger, you can’t change patterns without saving?
You can change (from the arranger view, which AFAIK the only place to switch) but you’ll lose any changes (if any of course) soon as you switch.
And switching is nicely quantised
