anyone using the Overstayer FET compressor? or thier Instrument line driver?
I have been using uhe’s Satin as a basic limiter with soft clipping turned on, using the input and output controls to drive signals through. Thinking either FET or the Inst line driver are good HW analog options for this purpose.
Would also like to know, especially for techno/house drum buss

Believe that power-Elektron-User/techno-head Shagghie used this comp and had a lot of good things to say about it. This comp got a lot of discussion on the old forum. Try a search over there.
I have the Stereo VCA strapped permanently on the mixbuss… Works a treat for me!
Just got the ID4 instrument driver yesterday - running iPad thru it gives a little life…or a lot of drive if so desired!
Love my Overstayers to death :o)

My OT FET does a great job on my drum buss (TR8) as long as the signal does not get too complex, I won’t use it on the master buss.

Cheers guys,
I looked back at the EU forum and found some other options to consider.

I have the overstayer FET and the sound sculptor STS, both quite different things IMO. The fet comp is perfect for drum bus duties, its a decent sounding thing and can do varying degrees of colour/smashing. The STS is more subtle and can be used on a drum bus or master bus at 30ips- I like to drive it pretty hard (in order to get some light compression going on) and it basically pulls things together in a very pleasing way- one of those boxes where anything you feed it comes out a bit better sounding.
If you need compression related coloration get the FET, though if its tape style colouration then the STS has that and to my ears is somewhat more classy. Both are decent boxes though. Perhaps a decent compromise would be the STS and an LA audio 4x4 FET compressor, which can be had pretty cheap and will do similar things to the overstayer FET, if not quite as nicely.
If you go with the STS hit up neilbaldwin at marmot audio- he did an amazing custom build for me at a very reasonable price.

Oh, and I’d have thought the STS is the closest to the satin on concept, or the overstayer Saturator.

Cool thanks for the info. I’ll be demoing the Overstayer stuff this week.
The STS looks very interesting too.

Cheers TIB,
I think the STS will hit the spot. I actually started looking at tape machines
So this would spare me the rigmarole. I recently got both the FMR compressors too. You ever used RNLA before?
