So I just picked up an overhub and it is awesome, it is far more reliable than the TP link hub I had previously which had some of my instruments disconnecting intermittently.
I was wondering if there is any way to use one of the 7 ports as a host port? I tried connecting my ipad to one of the 7 ports but it’s not detecting any of my elektron boxes from there. Only when connecting the USB B port to the ipad does it register all my gear.
If your are wondering why I would want to do this, I have a wierd workflow where I sometimes use the ipad to sequence automation on the synths (via xequence). And I would want to sometimes have both the ipad connected to the hub to sequence the synths, while also having the laptop connected to the host port to capture all the audio stems into Ableton via overbridge.
Anyone know if (and how) the hub can be configured to allow this?
I’m also open to alternative solution suggestions. Other than using only my laptop.
And also (unrelated to the original question) can I have the iPad be detected as a midi device/instrument on windows to use some of the synths on it (send midi from Ableton, recieve audio via USB from the ipad). I’m using an ultralight mk5 interface if that would help.
After looking it up.i get the idea. Seems it’s been discontinued though unfortunately.
Perhaps some other way to get overhub to see two hosts?
I think I might have an idea, though I’m not sure if it would work or not. I can connect my ipad to a usb to din midi interface I have, send that into my motu interface to send to my PC. Not entirely sure how to handle passing any audio to the interface though should I need to.
Also I guess I would have a 16 channel midi limit and no way to select specific devices to send automation to though which is not ideal. All I’m basically trying to is to transfer the automation recorded on ipad to PC when using the elektron boxes with overbridge.
iConnect Midi 4+ allows to attach 2 iPads/iPhones as well as other midi/din5 devices and assign them to communicate with two USB ports where iPads are connected/ As well iPads will exchange audio over usb with other iConnect Midi 4+ usb port and Wndows audio over usb is also works. Only Midi 4+ works with usb audio.
Using Overhub as interconnect with iPad host functionality failing because it is not powered with addition power, Elektron devices uses Overbridge usb mode etc. iPadOS Version 13 or later supports of multiple USB MIDI and Audio devices. Use USB Audio/MIDI Mode and go straight from Overhub to iPad with usb to lightning/typeC jack ( or Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter). Use specific “Host” apps like AUM or Loopy Pro that are designed to address multiple Class Compliant USB inputs and outputs simultaneously.
