Overbridge "Controller" for MD/MM/OT .. What do u think?

Hey folks,

i just cant get this out of my head  I havent even connected my A4 with OB yet to try it out for myself but there is one thing i think about and i would like to hear what you think about it:

What about some sort of a “Controller” that enables MD/MM/OT for use with Overbridge? Would you buy such a thing? And how much do you think it should cost?

I would definitely buy this thing. It could even cost 600 €, i would buy it.

Imagine a device where you can connect all your individual outputs and the inputs of MD/MM/OT, hook them up via MIDI and you connect the device itself with a USB Cable to your computer. It delivers access to the machines through Plugins and takes care of the audio routing and Control Messages back and from the machines to the Computer - much like OB does right now.

In another post i already mentioned that i guess that Elektron will likely expand its product line to new territories and OB may be the foundation for that. Whether i guessed right or not: I think a Bridge-Device for MD/MM/OT to be OB enabled through indirection would be awesome anyway.

What do you think?

Have you not just described a usb audio interface?

in some sort, yeah. But with Overbridge functionality, meaning you dont need an audio interface to get it into your computer. And it not just takes the plain outputs of the machines but it routes them through USB audiostreams that reflect the actual outputs of the machines (no need to map this in a mixer of some kind). 1:1. So you grab MD Out C in your DAW for example and the device takes MD Out C and routes it through USB into the computer. And on top you control the hardware with a Plugin dedicated for each machine (a MD Plugin, a MM Plugin, a OT Plugin). The Device then transforms this data into classic MIDI Data the old machines understand. And it can do it for all the machines at once. And it obviously also allows for the perfect sync Elektron developed with OB.

Does that make any sense? It could as well be an audio interface that offers this functionality, sure. But i thought about something that more or less replicates Overbridge we know with the A4 for all the silver boxes and the OT that dont natively support it. With all the freedom we just get comfortable with OT

So not only have you invented the USB audio interface, but also the USB audio + MIDI interface. And editor software. And TurboMIDI.

Then you could have another software plugin to control the controller and then a controller to control the software plugin which controls the controller…;-))

ok, Controller seems to be the wrong word for what i mean

So lets just say: You have a Box and this box simply enables Overbridge functionality for MD/MM/OT - with their own plugins and audio through USB without the need for a dedicated Audio Interface. No matter how it is done technically.

Would you buy this thing? I would! :joy:

I would be down for a vst control interface for my OT, and I would find a audio interface that integrated the audio via vst as over bridge does interesting , so yea I can see what you are getting at… Could be intriguing if such a thing were to happen
