Overbridge and sync?

I can’t help wonder whether Overbridge is going to be any use for me.

Besides wanting to do at least some external processing I have never got to sync the rytm in live.

Issues are common but include these…

First beat is delayed always! Also the second beat seems off, I always end up recording 9 bars and adjusting loop.

Also latency seems to change in every project, which is more of a live issue, I’m talking from a blank canvas here.

It can range from 30ms to my current project that syncs with the met at 80ms!

Any thoughts, I know live and midi has always been a bit shit, but what is a solution to make it usable ?

Ive been wondering the same, it seems to be the case with Live and any external gear. Ive got a UAD interface and I still get latency when recording at 128 samples. Its not bad but as you can see from the photo its still there, think its just something that will always occur with ableton

I want overbridge so I can process individual tracks in Live. Currently can’t do that because I only have 8 inputs and they’re all taken up with other gear.

Yeah, first beat is always delayed. However, I don’t record AR into Live so it’s not an issue for me.

I notice latency changes mostly when VSTs are added to the master. I’m at 50ms right now. Running at 64 samples.

you need a sync gen and the problems vanish i can sync my MM MD and A4 to live without problems

I use Live as well, and it’s horse shit for sync – but this issue will have nothing to do with Elektron.

I have latency issues with Live but have since fixed these by using the latency adjustment feature thingo. Now I can record using Live and overdub with no issues.

I use a focusrite interface with a Mac…

I can even overdub in Live, using live instruments and they sync to the grid with the latency adjustment or the record Elektron material.

happy happy… check your computer and make sure your latency adjustments = 0.00 milliseconds. even a small .01 difference will stuff up your sync…

Just in clip view it is a bummer. I know Live is the issue but some manufacturers seem to do all right, My Base Station 2 seems to sync very well, although there is slight delay also, but thats live.

It is annoying having to sync up the rytm eveytime a start a project, sure plugins always shift latency in live, it has always been a bitch, but i’m starting from a blank slate.

Not like my cpu is getting a work out, on a imac 2011 with 12 gb of ram, focusrite pro 24 into my TC Electronics BMC-2.

Oh well thats Live and midi I guess.

I had an odd issue at first, i could not get the kick drum to be on the beat line of Live. I then used the click track to sync Live’s click with the click of the analog 4. After rebooting the analog 4 everything was in sync.

I use a Komplete Audio 6 Interface @ 128 samples.

My adventures with Ableton Live and Midi ended last year, when I found out, that Live was skipping (not sending) some Midi notes (e.g. some 1/16th).

Dont know if this has been fixed now. Will try again with Live 9.1.6.

The problem is not so much Ableton Live as the entire computer. PC or Mac. Midi clock is shit in every daw. For latency and jitter free midi clock you need a solution that bypasses the computers clock system and generates it’s own. Like the Innerclock sync gen or this new thing from ERM

Definitely read the articles and Litmus test on the Innerclock site. There is a wealth of info on there about all things midi clock related and what can be done about it. Even an article on there with Roger Linn that quashes a few myths about the MPCs clock and groove

Bear in mind that if you use sync gen or something similar the midi input of your external gear will being used to receive dedicated midi clock only. Sync gen will not allow you to send midi CC or any other control or program changes to that device. I’m not sure as to whether the USB ports on the Rytm or A4 can be used for this. Maybe someone else here knows? Can the rytm receive midi from both the midi and USB ports simultaneously?

I guess you could just use a midi merger box to work around that problem.

I’ve literally only just started using Live ( was on pure hardware -> stereo recording only before that ) & was amazed how it’s syncs my set-up perfectly, straight out the box.

I’m using Live’s clock via USB from my Macbook Pro into my Dark Time which then sends MIDI clock sync to the RYTM, Monomachine & other gear…
Interface is a UA Apollo Twin & I’m recording AR loops & the other stuff straight into Live with the sync spot on…

I must try this out. I have a dark time also. Never used it in the way you describe. Usually clocking it from the OT.
Having said all this, in a lot of cases midi clock won’t seem to bad. It often depends on the material being played. If you have say two sharp kicks. One playing from Live and one from any other piece of hardware. Both play exactly the same rhythm. They will not line up perfectly no matter what. You can use track delay but for me it needs to be set every time play is pressed. Every recording I make I have to zoom in on the first beat of the bar and snip off the tiny bit of mismatch. This is only the case with beat orientated material. I don’t bother to do this with sounds with less sharp transients

i used to have this problem. turned out that my wifi connection was to blame. turned off wifi and latency was the same every time.
this is on my OS X laptop, so may be a different cause on your machine. worth investigating…
