Overbridge and iPad

Hi Elektronauts

I am looking to connect my iPad Pro M1 running the new Logic Pro app. Wondering if Overbridge works? For me to travel with Digitakt, Digitone and Syntakt would be a dream come true :relaxed:

theoretically you can use the AU plugins, but if I’m not mistaken the plugins require the OB Engine app to run in the background, so as long as the Engine is not available the plugins cannot work.

Thanks I kinda guessed that would be for a future firmware update? Though Apple out of their walled garden won’t be coming soon if ever.

Anyone know if there’s technical limitation on iOS that would prevent an Elektron app that works like Overbridge on computers?

I’m no longer sure I’m keeping my iPad Pro after I eventually replace my desktop with a macbook, but Overbridge on iPad might one more reason to keep it around. Though a future iPad with a headphone jack would be even better. Less adapters and no latency is definitely more Pro.

As far as I know, the DAC in Apple’s USB-C headphone dongle is the same as the internal DAC used in older iPads, so no sound/latency differences there.

That’s was the adapter bit of my comment… “less adapters”

Apparently, this is available now and Elektron presented it at Superbooth:

Did I miss that in the latest update or did they not announce this officially yet?

We’ve been discussing it over here: Overbridge as iOS/iPadOS app?

Elektron had an early preview of Overbridge for iPad working and available to play with at their booth, but it’s not released yet. They said they wanted to see if there was interest before deciding if they’d release it. I think they garnered enough interest over those 3 days to make the decision to go ahead with it, judging by their social media posts today, but it’s not clear how long it will take before it’s ready for release. Thomas from Elektron did set my expectations that it will be quite a lot of work to get it into a releasable state. So don’t expect it really soon.
