Overbridge 2.0.53 for macOS Big Sur - Public Beta

Overbridge for macOS Big Sur is finally here! Please note that this is a public beta, as opposed to a stable release. It includes a brand new driver (a complete re-write!) based on Apple’s new driver architecture DriverKit, which is necessary for macOS 11.0 and later. We know that many of you have been eager to use Overbridge on Big Sur, but before upgrading please note that this version does not yet include the CoreAudio driver in order to run as a regular audio interface. Therefore, we want to first release it as a public beta. In practice, this means that while you can multi-track stream individual channels via the Overbridge plugin, you can not yet choose your device as a sound card. This is being worked on and we hope to have that ready soon. Apart from that, the new driver has been tested extensively and proved to work well.

Warning! Please refrain from upgrading to macOS Big Sur if you want to keep using your Elektron device as a regular sound card in Overbridge mode. Only multi-track streaming from the plugin is available at this point. CoreAudio will be added later.

How to report issues

Please report potential Overbridge 2.0.53 related issues in this thread. We will be here to assist you. Refer to the Overbridge Manual (9.1 MB) before asking for help if you’re unsure of how to set up and use Overbridge. Make sure to include the following information in your report:

  • macOS version number.
  • Name of the Elektron device (e.g. Analog Four MKI/MKII etc.).
  • Elektron device OS version (shown briefly in the lower right corner of the display when the device is powered on).
  • Step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce (if possible, but please report issues even if they aren’t reproducible).
  • DAW name and version (when applicable). Version can usually be seen when starting the DAW.
  • In some cases, we may need you to extract logs. Please refer to these instructions if we ask for logs.

If you experience a potential firmware or hardware-related issue, which is not related to using Overbridge on macOS Big Sur in any way, please contact support rather than reporting in this thread.

While Overbridge 2.0.53 will also install on earlier versions of macOS, it will basically be the same as the latest stable version. We recommend using the latest stable version, Overbridge 2.0.47, if you are using an earlier macOS, such as macOS Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra, or Sierra. This public beta test is for macOS Big Sur only. The new firmware versions will work with Overbridge 2.0.47 as well as with Overbridge 2.0.53.

What about Model:Samples?

Model:Samples is not an Overbridge compatible device. You can use it as a class-complaint USB audio device to stream audio over USB though.

Analog Heat OS 1.21 :

Bug fixes

Modulating multiple parameters over MIDI CC or Overbridge could sometimes cause the UI to stop responding.

I hope this is the answer to the only thing that causes me issues when tweaking intensively the Heat with OB.

OB and DN updated. Everything’s OK under MBP16 Big Sur. I’ll continue the tests tonight.

Overbridge works for me w/ DT 1.21, OB 2.0.53, Big Sur 11.2.3 and Ableton Live 11.0.2.

  • macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 (intel)

  • Digitakt

  • Digitakt crashed after using “Assign Samples” window in overbridge VST Plugin.
It also bricked, and couldn’t boot up. After disengaging USB Cable, Digitakt finally booted up, but switched into midi usb mode by itself. Its working again, and everything looks fine for now.

Under Logic, the OB mode is unusable. You still can edit DN settings, but you loose the audio connexion

Which version of Logic?

Sorry to hear that. I am unable to reproduce. What DAW are you using? Did the crash occur when assigning a specific sample? Can the crash be reproduced using a new project on the Digitakt?

The Digitakt will need to rest powered off ca 20-60 seconds after a crash before it can boot again. There are large capacitors inside that will need this time to discharge.

Does this solve issue with Overbridge in Logic Pro X 10.6.1 if running latest version of Catalina?

The latest.
More test results : strangely, the audio passes through Logic’s audio input, either in OB or MIDI+audio over USB, but I’m not able to record it. Live 11 doesn’t even let the audio pass through in OB mode.

Im using Bitwig 3.3.7 , the crash has occurred while previewing samples with play button.
I can’t reproduce this this crash again, with same project or even with a new one. For now it looks fine. Im using direct usb cable without any usb hub.

BTW. thanks for a tip of waiting for Digitakt to rest after crash  my heart was petrified for a few moments

I need a number. Fixes were made in the preview versions of Logic and I don’t know if that version has been released yet.

Good to hear! We will investigate what could have caused the crash. Let us know if it happens again.
