cool
BIM also does
My BAM arrived earlier today and it already feels like my reverb pedal (/box) search has come to an end. After trying out the MercuryX, UAFX Golden Reverberator and a couple of others it’s so nice to just have something that I instantly connect with. The fact that it’s a lovely design doesn’t hurt either.
that looks nice was it hard to pull them off ? I tried it with my boum to see what kind of knobs I have to buy but can’t get them off.
To be sure there is no screw right? just pull them off ?
good idea!
Hi Elektronauts!
I’m attempting to create reference stickers for my OTO FX, starting with BAM and planning BOUM next. These are designed to fit on the side panel of each unit, showing all parameters and settings in a compact format.
I’ve got a working version of the BAM sticker that includes:
- All 10 reverb types (Room through Boing v1.6 firmware)
- Input gain settings (0dB through +15dB)
- Filter cutoff frequencies (both LF and HF)
- Chorus settings and Pre-delay options
- Mode references for ACTIVE, TAP, and FREEZE
The sticker is sized at 140mm × 38mm to fit the side panel perfectly.
I’ve created this with help from an LLM (Claude), but I think someone with better graphic design skills could probably make it look much nicer! I know there are some issues with the current version - like uneven row sizing and crowded text in the CHORUS PRE-D row.
I’m open to any suggestions for:
- Improving the layout or organization
- Making it more visually appealing
- Fixing any errors or omissions
- Better text alignment and spacing
Even small contributions would be greatly appreciated - whether it’s tweaking the SVG to fix alignment issues or suggesting a better way to organize the information.
I’ve made the project open source at: https://github.com/vichong/oto-fx-reference-stickers
If anyone wants to contribute improvements or suggestions, please feel free to do so either on GitHub or here in this thread. Once we’ve refined the design, I’ll update the repo with print-ready PDF files.
Thanks in advance for any help!
Hrmmm, if there’s some good glossy stickers to be printed I could add to a magnet sheet and custom cut them to adhere to the case.
Just picked up a 2nd hand BIM to go with my BAM and I’m a bit worried it might be damaged? On my BAM the “active” button is almost silent when I engage it, but on the BIM there’s a loud click from the relay when I engage it. Is this normal?
Ah thats great to hear. So spillover and aux wont have a click because they dont use the relay?
Which mode would you recommend for using it on the aux send of a mixer?
That is correct. I use the Aux mode in my case when using it as an aux effect from a mixer, but I’m not sure why I’m using that over the Spillover mode, I’m sure there was a good reason for it. Try both anyway and see how they work for you.
When set up as a send effect on a mixer you’d typically want just the wet signal to come out the effects box, which is what the ‘AUX’ setting ensures. This avoids the kind of subtle phasing issues you might run into if the box also returns a dry signal, which’d then be mixed with the source signal on the mixer again.
Yes, Aux sounds like it’s designed for using on the Aux send of a mixer!
I’ll try that now. My understanding is that the mix knob then just becomes an output level knob for the wet signal - no dry signal is included at any point in its travel.
That’s correct – and the ‘active’ button just becomes a mute.
finally got BAM today and instantly noticed the Tap Tempo to Reverb Time function wasn’t working. went to the site and saw in the latest 1.6 BAM_USER_MANUAL_ADDENDUM…
NOTE : the TAP to Reverb Time function (see page 12 of the User Manual, « TAP TEMPO DESTINATION ») is not working.
so, it just doesn’t work? since feb 2024? (when this firmware was released)
I unfortunately can’t update my firmware from 1.5, not sure if it’s my USB/MIDI interface (E-MU XMidi1X1 ) or what, but I followed OTO instructions and BAM does nothing when I send the SysEx file…
I reached out to OTO but curious if anyone had similar issues or can confirm tap tempo issue… that would be a huge bummer!
@babooncube does this post help with your firmware update woes?
wow, I had actually gotten to a place where the firmware was sending to BAM properly and LEDs were progressively lighting up, but the device would then brick (other than booting into firmware upgrade mode).
but just tried these settings and it worked! after trying so many different pause / time out settings, I’m pretty sure “Transmit buffer size” is the trick.
anyway this was a lifesaver, thank you so much!!
oh and for those wondering, OTO got back about the Tap Tempo to Reverb Time function and it is indeed not working indefinitely
I finally upgraded to the latest BAM firmware and uhh I love this Bloop/m reverb. It’s my favorite reverb on the pedal I think, can either be pretty subtle on low mix or work as an ambient track on its own on high mix.
Also responds very nicely to cranking the drive, it’s very playable and I find myself changing the settings more when jamming with it.
