OTII Cleaning switches

Hey looking for some quick advice.

Some of my buttons on my OTII become unresponsive if I leave it for a while. I’m assuming this is build up of debris inside the switches themselves. So long as I stay away from the encoders is there any harm in removing the front cover and spraying some contact cleaner into the switches? Checking before I accidentally melt the motherboard or some nonsense.

Weird.

It’s relatively easy to remove buttons and encoders with 2 guitar picks, then unscrew the faceplate and clean the inside with a paintbrush and a toothbrush.

I advise to remove and replicate the flat cable between the two motherboards, I have “fixed” a handful of gear by doing this.

If it doesn’t fix your problem, ask Elektron support on their website.

Yeah you can open it up and try some contact cleaner on the mechanical switches.

Id open it fully so the cleaner can evaporate quicker, and also so you can see what you are doing.

If that doesnt solve it, try elektron support.

If possible, buy a can of compressed air and try that before the contact cleaner. Same method: remove encoder knobs, remove faceplate, unplug cables, remove button caps, then blow off the pcb from various angles and try to actuate the less responsive switches a bit as you blow them out, then test.

I think that’s the least invasive thing you can start with. If that doesn’t work, try contact cleaner pointed away from the encoders in a small increment then work the buttons up and down a little and wait for it to evaporate (10 minutes-ish) before plugging in and testing.

I think the less invasive of a procedure you can start out with, the better.
