Try to keep this short and sweet.
Bout to buy an octatrack (for the 2nd and last time).
Kind of like the idea of making my beats all in one box and besides the nice reverb is there anything I’ll be missing if I try to make drums on the OT vs the DT?

you might miss the nice interface, control all, lfo on sample selection, the general sound of it.
I sold it for the second time, cause I always come to the conclusion that it’s redundant for me next to my OT
I don’t really use the lfo or control all function but I dooo like the interface of the DT.
The OT was a bit clunky but being able to have individual outs for drums would be nice tooo
I found myself using the Digitakt for producing drums only. So great, fast and straigth to the point, it is fantastic!
OT is much more than that, I see it more for full songs, live arrangement. I plan to process complete tracks on my daw and setup a live set on the octatrack with stems and some live playing.
From that perspective those machines are very different to me and don’t really overlap!
cheers!
So you end up recording the DT into the OT?
I would really like to make use of the extra outputs on the OT to be able to sidechain properly and use external effects.
I never really used the live sampling of the OT but in theory it seems it would be easy to solo the kick from the DT, record to a OT track and then mute the kick and record the rest of the DT patterns into different tracks.
If I was a little bit more flush I’d love to pair my OT with a DT. I’m sure it’ll happen one day.
I’ve really enjoyed owning the OT this time around (about the 5th attempt) but still find it a pain in the arse to get bass/leads I’m happy with from mangling samples. The DT was an absolute breeze in this regard.
So, I envisage loading similar/same samples Into both units and mangling away willy nilly and seeing what comes of it. Or, maybe I’d do drum patterns, sample them into the OT to chop up then use both for other things. Or maybe some other combo. So many possibilities.
Ah sorry i was not precise enough. I meant I produce my songs on a daw, using my Digitakt for drum parts.
The idea is to try to multitrack everything to my daw. (Will be easily feasible for the digitakt when overbridge comes out
).
Then i polish it and mix it as nicely as i can into stems, put it on the octatrack for remix, and live arrangement.
I make a very different use of the 2 boxes actually!
