Let me know what do you think about this idea…

I was always afraid to record my session straight into a source because all the sounds are not separate from each other and for this reason the mixdown process can’t be done in the best way…

Sometimes you record sound by sound in your laptop for editing and arranging, but is not fun and it takes ages…

In my case, as i have 2 OT I was thinking that a nice idea could be to make a pattern of 64/64 with all ELEKTRON and non ELEKTRON gear,
then record each sound to your laptop, then mixdown all the tracks together using all the eq and spectrum analyzer that you might need…

Once this is done you can export these sounds and place them in your OT…

In this way you should be able to make a live set without being afraid of the mixdown process and record it in only 1 track ready to be mastered or passed on tape.

Maybe a lot of you are already using this method but I arrived at it only now…

Once again…the problem is not only in the way all the single tracks are sounding, but especially in the sum of them.

You should start with a simple test:

make a mixdown (a stereo track) in the OT and the very same tracks summed on Ableton (or else) and render/bounce the mixdown.

You then listen to both and decide which sounds better.

Problems in summing lies on many different aspects…stereo separation, headroom, overlapping frequencies and how the system(OT vs LIVE or else) behaves with these…and more…

But if the tracks are well balanced then you should give OT a try… =)
