Hello

I wanted to just assign each track a different MIDI note corresponding to one of the voices but that leaves 4 voices without sequencing. Any ideas how to do this? The OT sequencer is much more powerful than any of my drum machines’ sequencers (micro timing!).

Thanks

I’d suggest giving the most important drum voices (kick snare hats) their own channels. Then you can combine some of the lesser-used voices onto single channels and parameter-lock the different notes as needed.

That was the solution I had but frankly I find that solution extremely limiting. If I have to use a knob to dial a note then the whole flow is gone :frowning:

If you only have one note per midi track, you only have to dial it in once.

pretty sure this is the only way to do it.

I hope in a future update there will be a facility to do real time drum recording using a pad controller but, not record over the same notes, like it does not record note off.

connect a midi controller keyboard (or drum pad) to the midi in on your octatrack.

set the midi channel on the controller keyboard to be the same as the “auto” channel on your octatrack. check out the OT manual if you don’t know what the “Auto” channel is or how to set it.

you should now be able to real time record notes on the OT midi sequencer track by “playing” them in from the controller keyboard.

the beauty of using the “auto” midi channel is that it will just forward the notes to whichever track you have selected on the octatrack.

but, if you’re looking to step sequence only, then i think you are stuck with having to use the data encoder to select the note(s). don’t forget that once you enter a trig with various note(s) that you like, you can copy and paste that individual trig within the track
