Oh yeh, almost forgot to mention. If you want a synth sampler get the rytm
OT and DT are monophonic, a sample triggered can cut another one abruptly.
I think both need correct envelope settings to avoid that. Automatic fade out setting would be nice. I’m sure it’s not the case with OT, didn’t check with DT.
Too clicky? Add an noise sample track on clicky steps!
Now I have both, I can tell OT is obviously better at it : realtime use of inputs as stereo evolving noise possible. Add Comb Filters, done. Realtime stereo resampling, add up to 16 different fx to it = welcome to another world of synthesis.
DT can’t do that. It needs samples, or a sampling done. No realtime.
Can proove it with any contest confidently.
Can do really good synthesis! DT is just a limited AR MKII.
OT has a better resolution in Audio Editor.
Possible to use 8 tracks, with different modulated start points, and also modulate trim points in Audio Editor.
DT wins at modulating start / end on different samples.
CTR ALL can’t be midi controlled or recorded, OT crossfader can.
For sure, but those are it’s sampler skills! You’ll get no argument from me as far as which is the deeper or more powerful machine. I just prefer what the DT brings to the table for single cycles, and when I want to make synth sounds out of samples, I find myself reaching for it more often than the Rytm or OT.
Plus if you’ve got a decent phone you can always run AUM and some effects over USB for a little extra spice
DT is more immediate, for sure. But I always go back to OT, that can do the same (LEN set to TIME), even if its pitch range is limited. I found some workarounds with tuned slices, 64 notes (around 5 octaves range).
I should try again with DT, no love for it at the moment, I’m about to sell it to buy a 2nd OT near my place. Maybe I should have kept my AR MKI (END vs LEN parameter is annoying though).
So don’t get me wrong, I think DT is really interesting too, and it probably would have been very different if I had DT at first, but after OT, A4, MD, AR, DN, I knew how to use DT after 5 minutes, found it too easy/limited.
Too much gear!
Seasoned digitakt user. The lack of fade in and out like the Octa really kill a lot on the Digitakt. Just some days I can deal with the click and other days it’s just unavoidable. It’s usually when I’m using the digitakt for doing WAY more than it should be doing. Lol. Regardless though, I really love the Digitakt. Just got done finishing a cassette of jams with the Digitakt and Machinedrum. Those 2 go together very well. Let’s me use the Digitakt in a more mild manner and it’s great. Using it as a synth is great. Limited set of tools gets the job done. Haven’t made any synth sounds that blow my mind, but sometimes I have been slightly surprised sometimes
Long live the Digitakt
Become my teacher
Yes.
Yes.
Smoothness as in no clicks and smooth sound.
Smooooth
Who are all these people insisting on using samplers as synthesizers? Bunch of weirdos.
Ive got a digitakt, its not bad, but I’m selling mine . Ive also got an octatrack, which is amazing I will never get rid of it. Also -
Octatrack crossfader…
The End.
