Not sure I’ve posted since the move from the old forum. I was puzzling through recently how to record stems from the Octatrack without losing the feeling of a jam. Here’s the result via “vibe coding”: a tool that 1) captures your performance (stereo outs + optional cue outs) then 2) spits back the performance to your OT via MIDI and records a pass of each track isolated 3) and puts it all in a folder broken down by track so you can drag everything into a DAW (with maybe some minor latency between stereo mix and stem tracks)
Mac only for now and I’m sure there will be bugs and/or that more proficient coders will find ways to make it better, but I figured I’d share!
No recording buffers–think of it more like an automation of recording a take into a DAW while tracking MIDI, then playing that MIDI back to the OT X number of times to capture each track’s output individually.
Very interesting tool! I always thought the OT should`ve had an ADAT I/O in addition to the analog I/O. Would go so well with the 8-track structure of the machine. Gimme separate outputs for each track!
