OT & ST routing question

Hi. Sorry if this was discussed before, but I tried searching and didn’t find anything matching my problem.

I want to record ST going into OT on my computer, but I don’t have any other audio interface available at the moment, only ST.
I was wondering if it is possible to send ST to OT for mangling and send it back to ST inputs and send that over USB to the computer, with some adventurous combination of usb/routing settings.

Can you do this in stages instead of live processing? Something where you basically sample ST into OT and then once it’s on an OT track, mangle and record the OT output sent back into the ST inputs > USB audio to daw.

Maybe I’m overlooking something, but I’m concerned you can’t avoid a feedback loop in live processing. It might be possible to route the ST physical outs to only the L/R out and then assign just the isolated external mixer input only to the USB audio out, but I’m not sure how well this works in practice. You’d only be able to monitor the output either pre-ST or from monitoring on the daw side.

Sorry if that’s not specifically helpful but maybe gives you a couple things you can try. Hopefully someone has done this with live mangling (if that’s what you’re after) and can tell you how it was accomplished.

I see that you can definitely choose only the EXT for the usb audio routing (the ST inputs specifically) and send only that straight to USB, and then you can still have the internal tracks fully routed to main, but what I’m unclear on is how to set different mix levels for the inputs to main vs the level for inputs going to the USB output.

I might just be missing something though.

Ha, it worked!! Thank you so much!
I can just set the USB Out to EXT but just keep the inputs fully turned down in the mixer section and it does exactly what I want, no feedback.
A bit cryptic, but perfectly fine.

That’s super awesome and no problem, I’m glad you were able to confirm it because someone else will undoubtedly also want to do this in the future.

Are you now monitoring from the DAW side so that you can make sure the level is suitable? I know with overbridge the impact of pattern level volume changes on the device only seem to apply to the main mix, but that individual track outs are always at full level so that might have been the key.

Yeah hopefully someone else finds this helpful as well, who might’ve never dared to do it as the loopy connection feels a bit forbidden
Yes level is fine, I can gain stage with Syntakt volume knob and OT settings.
I’m not using Overbridge, just the regular USB Audio.

I forgot to address this part to clarify my setup: Yes I’m using Syntakt USB Audio only for the inputs in the DAW but I’m monitoring through built-in outputs of the computer.

I think that’s the smart way to do it, or at least set it up that way and I think you could probably performance monitor from OT if you felt more comfortable with that. Sometimes I get weird if my headphone cable is headed in the opposite direction and it’s distracting buuut that’s probably just me
