could someone tell if the hold mode in Plays Free can be made to actually hold the sound on only as long as the trig key is being held? not until the end of the sample.
if you know how to do this could you please kindly explain?
everything else is clear except that i canāt make the envelope follow the exact time the trig key is being held. i have tried all the hold/length/release variations i can think of.
so you can confirm the hold mode should allow me to stop the playback of the sample in the middle of its duration if i stop pressing the trig key?
if i use trig buttons 9-16 i canāt use sample locks for each pattern (ie A1-A16). but i can make the playback exactly as i want when i trigger with 9-16.
but when i place a trig for a track, playing with trig buttons 1-8, hold max, release min - the sample doesnāt stop playing the moment i release the trig key.
anyone out there might know what is an issue here? iām suspecting it might not even be meant to stop before the sample has played through but i would love to get a confirm on this.
p91: āHOLD will make the track play for as long as [TRIG] key⦠(is) held. Playback of the track will stop when the button is released.ā
Check that TRIG QUANT in the pattern settings is set to DIRECT.
I remember trying this out and not getting what I expected. Iāll try again later.
EDIT: A possible work around if using a high bpm or scale would be using minimum TRIG QUANT setting (1/16?), but the lag would almost definitely be noticeable.
i have used trig quant in direct, and kept hold full before max, and also tried less. i can basically fine-tune manually the playback approximately ok but itās not good enough, and with tons of tracks itās just pretty tedious. and anyway, i canāt get it exactly right the way i have to fuss about.
so all you guys are able to stop playback mid-sample when stopping holding the trig key?
can you confirm? no matter what length the sample is, looping nicely while you press trig key, and then whenever you release the trig key the playback stops right away?
No, when I tried before I couldnāt get it to behave like that. Youāre not alone!
That was what I expected to happen, but it didnāt. I havenāt revisited it but if I couldnāt get it working iād probably try looking at mutes or one2. I agree that it would be better if it behaved this way, hopefully someone has an answer.
PLAYS FREE controls the behavior of the tracks. When activated the chosen track will be disconnect-ed from the sequencer. When [PLAY] is pressed the track will not start playing. To start the playback of for example audio track 1, it needs to be trigged manually by pressing the [TRIG 1] key. To trig MIDI track 1, press [TRIG] key 9 while in MIDI mode.
Of course the feature works, but I guess there is some misunderstanding on your side how āplays freeā tracks work.
āPlays freeā tracks play the sequence you have programmed and not the sound of the track directly. As @sezare56 already explained, when you release the key in HOLD mode it will stop the sequence, but the last played trig will play out as you have programmed it.
So please check the content of the track and how you have the trigs set up.
For example: if you have just a single trig but with a very long note length like a complete bar, of course it will sound for the complete bar no matter if you released the key mid-bar.
in this HOLD mode the sample will play for as long as the key is held OK but how does one make the sample get played slower than everything else going on? Almost like youāre squishing the sound out, maybe gradually building up speed as it moves through the sample. Is this possible with the oT?
