OT Performance - Mixing projects

Skimmed through the search terms I thought would go with this, but basically I have lots of projects. Most of them don’t really require no downtime in between so when I perform I just end a song and load the next one. However, It would be kind of nice to seamlessly flow into the next. Does anyone have some ideas or tips on how to accomplish this? Id prefer not having to export each project as a single file wav, since I like to tweak things during the performance.

Thanks

Well each Project is it’s own seperate entity, and the Set level is the consolidation of that.

A Project will always take time to load, regardless of the size and complexity.

So, you would need to look at either a “transition tool” to use as a buffer when switching Projects, and mute the Octatrack. Could be a drum machine, Kaoss Pad, clap your hands, whatever.

Or look at consolidating your various bits from different Projects into one single “master” Project and not ever worry about changing.

So if I added an analog4 to the mess…I could probably use a single project in the a4 for 16 songs and just have outro/intro patterns during the OT load time…

Once the OT project loads though, seems like something would have to stop in order for the program start to begin playing the new project, assuming I can use the a4 as the one that sends program changes…

Fuck I hate this forum.

But you’ve been posting on it for 3 years? Although I thought maybe the clapping kaoss pad was a great idea, I was hoping for something that didn’t take me out of the OT and/or A4

Why not just have one Project that combines all your other Projects, then you don’t have to worry about any loading issues at all?

How big / complex are your Projects?

How long do you want to play for?

More information?

Yes. Basically do something, anything, else whilst the Octatrack is loading to keep the party going as it where.

There are sync boxes out there specifically for this purpose, e.g. Mungo SyncZ as used by the Chemical Brothers. John/Mungo is a good and really smart guy, and the SyncZ does exactly what it says on the tin, and I believe was the first product to solve the riddle of syncing/loading during live sets.

Other alternative is to have the A4 as master, then trigger the Octatrack via program change messages after loading, but this can cause other issues, thanks to the Octatracks sync / issues when not the master clock, and you obviously have to ensure all your Projects are correctly configured…

And I was posting on a much better forum for 10 years before that…

This forum / software is shite. Has the same bugs and issues as it did when it launched.

The comment wasn’t directed at you. More the joys of writing a long response, then hitting post and get the ‘Topic Closed’ bug that regularly occurs and losing everything I had typed for you.

Moving forward, The single project idea is something I’m going to try out, I’m just not sure if my existing projects will work out. I have a few that eat up 3 banks each. 45min - 60min is about where I would cap things on a single set at this time, I don’t want to be the opening act that bites into everyone else’s time.

Talking with a friend, consolidating the song into a single file and using a static machine might be the way to go, then I can load it into a single project file like you suggested. I would miss changing scenes that only affect certain tracks in the song though, but I guess I can just use plocks to bake the scene changes into the song. Or perhaps I need to look into using parts

This is a good idea, and it reminds me of a Ren & Stimpy episode, but yeah this seems like a perfect (yet costly) solution.

Another great idea, I was thinking this as well after reading/watching http://www.elektronauts.com/t/analog-4-octatrack-tutorial-making-them-work-together/9911

Thanks for following up, it helps to get me thinking.
