OT MK2 + Dreadbox Nyx V2

Ok! If you had to let go of one of them, which would it be?

The Nyx V1 reverb is from Crazy Tube Circuits Splash Mk3:

Also available in Eurorack format from Dreadbox:

If I had Nyx V2 (and the budget), I’d be tempted to pair it up with one of the options above. That way you have the OG sound but with all the new patch point possibilities.

Yes I’ve been thinking of one of those options but then I’ll have to spend more money rather than selling the v2 to get the v1. It would also keep down the footprint and I might have found one for 350 € which I think is a pretty good deal.

That makes perfect sense.

I must admit, I do like the form factor of the v1. It fits nicely in the Elektron ECC-4 bag, along with my Digitakt.

After much deliberation I decided to let go of Nyx v1. Although the reverb is much nicer, all other bonuses of v2 (more flexible modulators/patch points/etc) win (also already have some nice outboard reverb).

The Dreadbox Eurorack Splash Reverb is a bit steep at €250…

you could buy the pedal https://reverb.com/item/28337477-crazy-tube-circuits-splash-mkiii-reverb

Don’t know what you guys are talking about with the reverb in the v2. It is the reason I bought it when I demoed at robotspeak summer of 2019.

I’ve been bouncing around from forum to forum regarding the midi issues on the nyxv2. I now realize I’ve had these issues, while intermittently, pretty much from the beginning. They really cropped up last night when I was trying to sequence it with the polyend tracker.

There are 2 main issues. The first is stuck midi notes. The second is the midi interface won’t correctly accept gate messages.

If you read the notes on the recent firmware update, both of those issues are addressed.

However, the torturous thing is, my unit will not enter firmware update mode. Apparently, this also is a known issue. I’m posting here because I wonder if anyone has had this issue and been able to resolve it.

Not really a direct response, just an invitation: You should write Yannis and the Dreadbox team directly, they tend to be very responsive and helpful with such queries.

Hi, maybe you’ve heard about this since posting, apparently units with serial number 170 and lower may not have had the boot loader installed at the factory and cannot be updated without some special steps (below):

I emailed DB recently - Yiannis replied quickly and agreed to help sort it out.

Yes, I ordered the hardware and uploaded the firmware directly to the board. Works perfectly, and now I feel like a hacker.
