OT Midi Out Port

Hello all;

The OT is not sending anything via it’s Midi Out Port. all settings are ok. any thoughts? broken? fragile?

Just checking but do you definitely have the Channel activated? Have you turned on clock and even that is not being transmitted? Has your Octatrack sent Midi OK before? Does the cable work with other kit?

so… if i hook up the analog 4 as a slave for the ot, nothing happens. if i replace the a4 with, let’s say… the electribe or any other midi device, the same. nothing happens. if i reverse the setup, the a4 sends, and the ot or any other device to receive… it works. so the cables are fine.
i have the ot since 1 year now… and… i can remember the midi out worked. can’t figure out what happened as i take good care of my equipment.

“Just checking but do you definitely have the Channel activated?”

sorry… which channel?

I was referring to the Midi Channel number on the Playback page - you need to click the encoder to confirm it. (I wasn’t sure, from your question, how long you had been using your OT.)

It sounds like you have checked everything but it does seem like rather an odd malfunction to occur. And it definitely isn’t sending Midi clock?

turn ot on

fn+mixer

hit the down button to get to midi

press right button

if u r on control hit enter
everything should have an x
and say
int+ext

exit that menue

go 1 menu further down = SYNC

hit enter

hit everything that you want to activate …

have a look at the channel settings …

adjust to taste

dont forget Midi Through does not send out data that is generated with the machine, it only passes data through

An easy way to test…

-Octa Midi out to A4 in.
-On Octa press midi button.
-On one of the 8 midi tracks double tap playback button.
-An option for midi channel should appear. Set it to the midi channel that A4 receives on. Make sure you press down on the encoder to confirm!!!
-Press Rec button and enter a trig.
-Press Play.

The trig should activate the A4

100% not sending anything. things get broken, knobs… sliders… but midi ports??? this really pisses me off

did u follow my suggestions bro ?

It could be a few things, as suggested by the rest of users in this thread, check all the Menu settings and MIDI page settings before anything.

If you want to make 100% sure, you can use some MIDI monitoring Software like MIDI-OX, that will tell you exactly what MIDI is coming from the OT if any.

There is deffinitely something going on with the OT and MIDI. A while ago I couldnt get any notes OUT to my Virus TI using the Arpeggiator, just turning Sync Clock Out to Off would fix it, somehow the project was corrupted and nothing got fixed untill I rebooted the unit and created a new project.

I was just working yesterday in a quick demo, to make a youtube video using the Quneo MIDI controller to trigger slices and scenes on the OT externally, and ran in to a few funny problems-bugs.

While working normally with audio tracks, I decided to make a MIDI track and use a x0xb0x for the bassline. In the Mixer section, the mutes of the MIDI tracks were all lighted up, half green half yellow… weird…

I couldnt trigger the x0xb0x at all, was going crazy, then decided to forget about MIDI track 1 and use MIDI track 2… Things started to work, but same weird Mute behaviour, even with all the MIDI mutes Off, now the x0xb0x wouldn´t shut up…

I then decided to turn it off, make an OS upgrade to the same one, and create a new project… things started to work normally again…

It might be some stuff going on that fucks up MIDI side of things.
Hope it helps!

Trabant and AUX… did all your tests… still no midi out. guess will have to send it to them to check it out. thanx guys for your time

I had same issue… but midi only worked in chromatic mode with live trigs… it was corrupted project file.

Try starting a new project.

thanx multiman and benbin… tried everything. nothing works. this is just super frustrating :frowning:

Just a last check.

When you’ve entered the correct MIDI channel settings as described, do you see a pixel appearing top-right of the BPM readout when you live hit a trig in chromatic? That’s the internal sign of the OT sending MIDI out. If it does, then your port is fried. If not, then it’s something internal, possibly remediable.

pixel is there. port is fried i’d say!

hey sorry if this is a dumb question, but have you ever had the OT sending midi? It took me a couple of tries before i ever could get it to work. I too, for a little while, was sure that the midi on my OT was broken. I believe the problem was that i either didn’t have OT sending midi correctly and the Sub phatty (in my case) was not set to receive on the correct channel.

yes… it worked quite well and very easy to setup. hook a slave, go to midi syncs, check both sends and voila! i’m conviced the port is fried

hey, same problem here! NO MIDI OUT!!! only MIDI IN.
Do you get yours repaired?

I had my Octatrack repaired in the first year I owned it when the midi out port failed.
