I never had a corrupt project but surely we all want to know what to avoid.

Then again I backup everything 3 times in 3 places regularly and use a cf-card reader rather than the OT usb. Yet to have issue with taking out/inserting cards in 3.5 years. Never had a crash. (though I didn’t trust the provided CF card right from the get-go due to reports of dodgy cards) Used so much my x-fader is worn down. Sleep well at night. Maybe luck on my side in this case.

But what sampling device is perfect? This is a jack of trades & it works well enough for me as a remixer & re-working pre-stemmed tracks. Other tasks maybe not so well.

IMHO I think some of the design choices/limitations of the OT were pretty unfortunate all things considered…

Limited numbers of parts locked to banks instead of standard “kits”
Only 128 static slots, & More RAM for Flex
Unreliable program change in midi sequencer that can’t be p-locked.
No delay+reverb on same track
Mute cutting audio & fx tails
No flexible track/fx routing a la Monomachine.
… Along with looper issues, half baked arranger (live performance recording with overdub & x-fader position column pls), midi scenes, file management & no live audio recording to CF card.

I wouldnt mind a version 2 if they fixed most of the above.
Prefer they fixed the current one though. After 4 years we gotta wonder though…

I’m an OT-fan myself. (with occasional hissy fits and righteous indignation similar to the thread starter - true love ain’t easy, hehe)

But there’s a fair amount of things that could be improved, and then everyone (!) would be buying Octatracks, instead of MacBook Pros or NI Maschines… (yes i actually believe what i wrote, not sure if i want that though - it’s cool to be the mysterious outsider).

And to be honest, the bugfixes in this update… I don’t think i ever encountered the bugs themselves…?

Certainly expected more, but it’s good to see elektron has not completely forgotten about their best machine. (A4? that’s a car, right?)

My OT opinion is that it does not need to grow or change, it needs a little bit of UI finesse to bring it in line with the Analog UI experience. The pickup machines are riddled with issues, if nobody mentions this, it won’t change.

I’m not standing up for the OP or the naive dreamers, but let’s just accept that the OT is in need of a polish, doesn’t stop any of us liking it or using it, though PU usage can be a chore

These recent bug fixes are most likely democracy in action, live with it

No offense meant, Baddcr (well, maybe a little dig) but it;s a bit of pot and kettle with you. Folks have a right to moan, as do you but your onslaught of posts about it is just as bad to be honest. We get it: You think people who have some complaints about the OT should sell it and get something else.

Anyway, as to your point about one location for bugs and things - it’s been attempted here (and the old forum) a couple of times. There was a thread several pages long at one point but I think the issue is we have all encountered different problems and documenting them in a meaningful way is difficult. A lot of the time, user error does come into play.

Another problem is that people end up adding their wishlist as bugs - midi scenes would be great and I know there are workarounds but this is an added feature, not something for a bug list.

There must be half a dozen or so big ticket bug items for sorting though. Say, pickups in general, for example.

My personal grip isn’t so much a bug it’s just the god damn awful way projects/samples are managed. It does p1ss me off that the likes of Rusty, who was very keen to develop something to address this, haven’t had any help on it too. I wouldn’t mind so much if Elektron released their own bit of software but that’s not gonna happen!

Yep - this is all very productive talk now. I too think that the constant outpouring is wasted effort in practice because Elektron can’t possibly want to read through all the day dreaming nonsense and schoolboy error stuff to find those nuggets of good feedback

i’m sticking to offering to work with PU users for a better outcome there, but i think it ought to be taken up by the moderators and then the thread could be focussed and managed if it gets off-piste

I always always just hope for fixes and modest enhancements, we’re entitled to the former and not necessarily the latter and i too find the hyperbole amusing and tiring, i’ve taken a few months away from 'nauts

The news that OT may be getting a tidy up piqued my interest

could not agree more - the manual needs a supplement, nothing better than a (breadth of) users perspective for other users
i wasn’t pissing on the idea, just keeping it real, there are no guarantees, but it sure would be more compelling and useful if it was pooled evidence
a lot of issues will no doubt be exposed as misunderstandings, but if there’s a collated best-practice together with agreed issues then everyone is a winner, whether they have any coding time or not
trouble with the OT is that it’s so deep and flexible that the subsets of things to provide feedback on would have to be smallish to make it manageable and to keep it succinct
there already is a user document floating around, but the language in that did nothing for me, it’s best to keep it very factual and perhaps tip based imho
i’m up for starting a PU thread, i’ll be able to edit the opening post to reflect the findings in the rest of the thread and feed that into a document eventually for users/elektron

I’d encourage separate focussed threads too, for your benefit, then try to identify a half dozen to a dozen frequent contributors to pitch in on their area of interest or issue

That’s what i’ll do for the PU machines, i’ve openly found them hard to embrace but i know the users who are working around things and those who are seeing some of the issues i see, it needs input from those power users (i exclude myself here) yes, looper power user, not PU machine poweruser, so i can ask the right questions and i understand what a reasonable and achievable end game is

Don’t underestimate how much time it’ll take, get a few likeminded souls involved to share the burden, then pull it into a document, but i still think it’d be beneficial to have a mod who could prune a thread if it gets sidetracked and derailed - easy to do for a document, granted, good plan

if it bares fruit and isn’t too onerous i would happily put myself forward to collate issues pertaining to UI/UX as well

okay - back in the room, not wishing to spoil the party but i’m sticking to my suggestion to feed stuff to you and help pull the document together if you like / proof read etc
so i’m going to stick to the idea of a single thread focussed solely on pickup machines as i’ve said a few times, it’s the only way i see it working, especially judging by the noise on that all encompassing thread already
i disagree with that first commenter about the benefits and put another way, electron may well be inundated with obvious user error bugs, so if we thrash some agreed bugs out and present as a team in the context of your helpful additional info document everyone is still a winner, it’ll become too unwieldy in my opinion if you focus on everything in that thread, but hey, that’s my tuppence, i’ll do my bit, it’ll hopefully be handy if the right folks come on board
that way it’ll be a live document that can be updated as and when any points are taken on board and resolved
i’ll flesh out my thoughts on a separate thread when i get the chance
go for it
