OT > EC4 > OT = MLM (midi loop madness) RESOLVED

Does anyone have this setup working without creating a midi loop storm? I though I’d be able to figure this out with some degree of logic and trial and error, but alas, it’s got the better of me.

I’m trying to control my virus by sending CCs from the OT and the EC4 but I instantly run in to problems. Over the past few weeks I’ve tried every possible option that I can think of or find reference to on the many midi-loop threads on this forum.

To simplify the routing I’ve tested with the OT out to EC4 in and EC4 out to OT in.
I have OT midi track 1 set to midi channel 1 and the configurable controller CC#5 set to (41) Cutoff.
I have a knob on the EC4 set to the same CC (41) on midi channel 1.
I have OT autochannel set to 11 and trig channel 1 set to Off.
I have CC Direct Connect enabled.

I turn CC#5 on the OT and the EC4 responds. I turn the EC4 encoder and the midi loop starts - the visuals on both devices go crazy.

If I change the different midi settings I can either get a midi-loop issue or I just can’t get the OT to receive the CCs sent by the EC4.

Is it even possible to route in the way I am doing or is it not possible to have the same CC sent to/from both devices without a mid-loop issue? I had assumed from reading other posts that people are successfully doing what I’m trying.

It’s not the end of the world if I can’t do this - I’ll just turn soft thru ‘Off’ on the virus and use the EC4 for the virus only but was hoping that I could send track volume changes from the EC4 to the OTs audio tracks.

Thanks,

You need to select a midi mode on the EC4 that doesn t forward data received at its midi in port to the midi out. It will still send its button controller data.

That did it. Rerouted midi EC4>OT>Virus with no MIDI routing on the EC4 and all is now good.

Many thanks @dtr
