i was wondering if someone has done this set up before :
1 person who controls 2 cdj’s, a djm and an efx (doing an normal dj set) and the other person who controls an efx 1000 and an OT…
My idea was to sample live the dj’s mixes, loading up samples and spice everything with OT’s fx and efx 1000.
Someone ever done this? I know its possible but what about MIDI?
Both OT, efx 1000 and DJM have midi… so i’ll put just everything in slave to the djm?
that’s a tricky one. i just bought traktor scratch pro 2 package, the audio 10 card has midi in out, but the clock isn’t too tight if sent from traktor, and the change of tempo from the octa if octa is the master results in a slow wobble of the bpm from traktor, resulting in mix clashing. still working on it, but in regards to your dilemma, i’d say the best way is to slave the efx to octa, and beatmach to the dj, octa is pretty capable of it, with the tap tempo and nudge.
the nudge doesn’t seem to work if the octa is slaved, though, so if the clock from the djm is unstable, it will sound bad.
yeah tested everything and not really THE best setup
I was also thinking about using traktor… but again it’s tricky also.
Maybe if you use the TM1 from elektron to boost the midi?
I’m trying to let the OT fit into my DJ setup but i think its a lost call Maybe using ableton with it will open more perspectives.
You may want to keep the cdj’s and OT clock separate.
Tap in the tempo on the OT to sample and slice.
Beat match back to the cdjs.
Or slave to the DJM. I would think traktor has some lag going from the analog time code disks to the digital time code. Also many songs have drifting tempos.
I want to do this with one turntable vinyl and an OT.
I do something similar with a friend but no beatmatching. He finds material (such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8Ra6TsdEts) on his phone either videos or music apps. I’ll sample and mangle from the OT. Plunderphonics.
