OT - continuous sampling w/ reverse playback : )

Sorry if this has been asked before.
I want to continuously record to a buffer ( or 2 for Octatrack ) WHILE continuously playing the samples in reverse. I have process which should work, I’m not sure why it’s not.

  • T1 is recording to flex buffer 1 for steps 1 - 32
  • T2 is recording to flex buffer 2 for steps 33 - 64
  • T3 is the Flex machine. It reads from buffer 2 for steps 1 - 32, and from buffer 1 for steps 33 - 64

This allows me to continuously sample and read back the buffers, meaning the playback is two measures behind the incoming audio (that’s fine with me). As far as I can tell, there is no point where a buffer is being written to and read at the same time.

But, when I try to play these buffers continuously in reverse, I get nothing. Why is this, and is there a way to achieve this with the Octatrack?

Thank you.

Yes, you can even reverse and pitch up continuously.

Your recording has to be finished to be played reversed, because it starts from the end. Check your recording length.

If you record internally with SRC3, you have to add +1/384 microtiming to the Flex trigs.
Disable Timestretch eventually.

It is possible, play head has to be after rec head. You can play a recording while overwriting it. Not possible reversed I think.

Thanks Sezare, the issue was w/ the fade in / out settings on the recorders. For whatever reason, you can’t have any fade in or out (even the smallest values) to be able to do this. With those disabled, it works fine.

Pitch now!

The fade out adds recording time > too long recording. I never use it with recorders.
