OT being controlled by Quneo - Lots of fun!

Hello OT friends!

Here is a rough quick pattern I did to experiment with the SID and x0xb0x synths being triggered by the OT. The Octatrack automates some Fx on the SID and adds distortion for the x0xb0x.

I started to play around a new live set idea, adding variations to the Ocatracks options, from the QuNeo MIDI controller.

I will make a more in deph tutorial of the way the templates are done, and what does each of the assignements.

This is awesome! Been messing around with the QuNeo for OT but haven’t got so far as to mess with slices. Would love to see your template. Good work, the track sounds great so far too.

Actually the track wont see the light ever lolol, this are short patterns I tend to make often in random styles, just to experiment techniques more in depth…

The only reason I bought the Quneo is because I really wanted to trigger Scenes and Slices from a controller, and this is the only one which kinds of allow you to do it…

I´m happy to explain how the Presets-temaplates are made, or if you are more lazy I can send them over for you to test them out

but you do need a usb-midi host / computer to connect the quneo to the OT, right? or am I missing something?

Hi, yes you are right… Quneo doesn´t have anything else than Micro USB. Like many other controllers…

I made my own USB Host (CerebelUSB) using Arduino, there is more info here: http://www.inspektorgadjet.com/cerebelusb/

Hey man!
Believe me when I say I want to have it too!! Is taking forever I know…

I was expecting to have news two weeks ago, but hollidays in betwen, delays in sending and recieving samples… and 1 million things… Is the first time in my life I take a project to production, and is being a tedious one… But we are nearly there!!

Hope to have some concrete info soon!

Hi, yes you can of course… But I wrote them when I got the QuNeo and they stated that it only works for KMI instruments and it doesn’t support a HUB… so just one device can be plugged at a time…

I’ve built my unit for any USB compilant device (allthough is Arduino based and if you want you can hack it to use wiimotes, PS2, Xbox controllers, USB cameras, android devices and any USB device really) but the most cool feature is no doubt the HUB.

You plug a cheap USB HUB and you get all the USB MIDI controllers merged in to a single MIDI output. Very cool feature.

I finally got a chance to hook up the quneo and mess around a bit. Seems easy enough to get stuff going, but for some reason my crossfader is backwards… Scene B is to left on the quneo instead of to the right side.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just the way it is?
Any help would be appreciated!

Lemur is a mighty controller for OT, midi via iPad and the raspberry pi makes a good cheap hub albeit a bit diddly to set up. A nice little bespoke hub would be good if it was cheaper than the Kenton one

Hola Musicmagnus,

In my case, it works the same than the OT, Left is A and right is B.
I have assigned CC 48 to “Location”, “Width” to Off. Note and Pressure are set to Off too.

Are you using the latest firmware and software? Make sure you backup all your presets before doing any update or reverting, as this will reset the preset to default ones.

Firmware and software are all good. Maybe its because I am running my midi from the quneo through reaper to the octatrack…
I just recorded the midi output of the quneo and I can see the CC values ramp up from Low to High, Left to Right just like they should.
Then I recorded the midi output of the Octatrack and the crossfader CC values are going High to Low, Left to Right… totally backwards.
I will have to try running the midi through something else later, but this seems weird to me.

Yeah must be reaper´s midi mapping, I don´t use reaper so I´m not sure but you might be able to edit the options in the mapping and invert it or something…

I´m using my own USB MIDI Host to transform the QuNeo USB in to a standar 5 pin DIN. As you say the QuNeo spits out for sure the right increasing value, I also checked with a MIDI-Pal that I have to Monitor MIDI streams and values are Ok.

Never recorded the OT´s Midi output, interesting result. Try sending the CC 48 value from another MIDI controller or DAW, and see if the crossfader behaves as expected.

That’s really interesting. This could really open up the Octatrack in a live scenario. Even a fader per track volume would make live tweaking a lot more fun.
This Cerebel USB box you’re developing. For me, having it battery operated would be the perfect solution ? the fewer power sockets required for a live setup the better I think ?

Hello bambrose, a Fader per track is already doable and one of the simplest thing to achieve, but as you say this opens a whole new and infinite universe of possibilities.

Regarding being battery powered, the problem is that some controllers will drawn more power than others, using the HUB you quicly will run in to issues so a stable 5V supply is a must.

I see it in a different way, last gig I had this weekend in Austria, the CerebelUSB saved my life, it served my as a phone charger!! hahaha.
A few weeks ago in France the stage was very “Dark” in light, so I used an USB LED lamp that I bought for 2€, all this in the USB Hub… So I see CerebelUSB as a neat way to save up a lot in cables for Live use…

For small devices, I´m sure you can get a 5V battery and hook it with a Micro USB connection to it…
