With slices it could even be multisample, right? In theory? I tried the slice script but there seems to be a slight delay.

Very short delay if you set the crossfader properly (Scene A = slice 1, Scene B = number of slices + 1).
If you want poly + slices, you can’t use crossfader, so there’s a delay (samples are played in time, but the slice change is not immediate).
