OT affecting sounds on A4, probably a simple fix

I am not even sure how to ask the right question here, but I am going to try.

Earlier this evening, I was jamming my 3 elektrons (MD, OT, A4), and recording a new track.

I have some effects hooked up to a couple of channels, and am using 2 scenes to do quick crossfades dry to wet.

Well, I noticed at one point, that one sweep of the fader on the OT, did something totally weird to the bass patch on my A4, making it somewhat morph its sound. It made it sort of muddy. A few bars later, I sweep again, and the bass comes popping back out in the mix.

I even caught this on a recording.

I’ll say up front that I haven’t loaded the latest OS on either the A4 or the OT, but…

What I really want to make sure I do (and need your help) is to kill all midi cross-talk between the machines for now. I may want some of that control back in the future, but for now the machines just sync, and play patterns on their own.

Is there something in the default setup of the OT’s midi config to look out for?

I will RTFM, double checking the manual, but can y’all refresh me on how this is done? Control section, I assume?

I’ve probably set up a rather complex question here, sorry.

p111

AUDIO CC IN: If you are only using the MIDI sequencer function of the Octatrack and not the sample tracks, this setting will not affect anything. If you want the MIDI controllers on your master keyboard to control the sample tracks, you should enable this setting.

AUDIO CC OUT: If you do not want the knobs for the audio tracks to send out MIDI information, select the INT option for this setting.

AUDIO NOTE IN: Do you want MIDI notes from your master keyboard to affect the audio tracks on the Octatrack? If not, then disable this setting.

AUDIO NOTE OUT: Do you want the Octatrack’s TRIG keys to send MIDI notes to the internal Octatrack tracks, to your external synths, or to both? Select INT, EXT, or INT+EXT according to your wishes."

On top of that, you probably want to check under Midi -> Midi Seqeuncer -> Midi CC Direct Connect.

Thanks for the quick reply!!

I will double check all those settings!!

I also just realized that my first post is wrong.

I meant to say I have effects on tracks on the OT, not on channels outside the box. I just was puzzled that the OT was affecting the A4. I still kinda don’t get it, but I will start with your post and the manual.

Great tip Rusty! Lovely that it is so concise!

Don’t thank me, thank Peter Hanes

Rusty’s answer above is appropriate and will prevent the OT’s audio track controls from sending messages to your other gear.

Your observed problem came from using the OT’s crossfader, which also sends out MIDI messages. To prevent the Analog Four’s parameters from being affected by external MIDI messages from any source, deactivate ‘RECEIVE CC/NRPN’ in the AF’s GLOBAL > MIDI CONFIG > MIDI PORT CONFIG menu. This will not prevent sequencing and synchronization of the AF from other devices.

Wow, nice, thanks!

I will implement all suggestions, and get back to recording.
