OT -> A4 pattern change delayed

Hi!

I have been struggling with this for days…
MIDI out from OT goes into MIDI IN of A4. Octa sends program changes, A4 receives it. Same auto channel. Also, it’s the OT which sends transport and clock MIDI to A4.
It sorta works, except one important notion: When I change pattern on OT , the change does not occur at sync at pattern begin, but only after another Chng steps (as set in Scale setup menu on A4). It’s kinda like the A4 receives the pattern change messages only after the clock messages, and it’s already too late.
But the Internet is full of success stories regarding this, so clearly it should work, but I am missing one important detail. Can’t figure out what.
Oh, and it sometimes works. But most of times does not.
Also, I know about the Multimap method, but I really don’t want to do that, it would be super-inconvenient for me.
Any insights?
Thank You!

Best,
Zsolt

Cycling through the 3 Direct Change modes on the A4 does not have any effect.

Is it possible that the pattern lenght of the two machines are different. How many steps behind is the A4?

No, the issue is reproducible if the pattern length is the same. When this happens, the A4 is behind Chng number of steps.

Are you using the latest A4 OS? There were some issues related to pattern-lengths and direct change, a while ago.

In the A4 MIDI config, make sure both MIDI ports are set to MIDI-only. I’ve had intermittent issues with SysEx dumps/OS updates when this is set to USB-MIDI (but that was more for data transfer than MIDI control and pattern changes).

Tried that with the ports, did not help, but thanks!
