I think the people’s musical wishes have been perfectly acknowledged from the get-go. DT 1 and 2 are the most intuitive, complex and sweet-sounding grooveboxes I have ever met. The design, DSP and execution justifies the price. All the extra features makes it even better, but to me, it was always worth the cost.
Imagine what a piano, saxophone or a violin can cost! DT can be just as deep if one wishes.
The new Digi boxes have a new platform too, and most likely all the new features are naturally not going to be available in the old boxes. I don’t think that’s unreasonable to expect as new hardware internals allow for these new features to be implemented. Yeah, so I’m not sure why some folks are going to be upset about new features not being ported to the old one.
If I’m not mistaken the OG came out in 2017! I didn’t buy one till 2 years later but I remember playing around with it then but I couldn’t wrap my head around it at that time. It looked so freakin’ cool then, and still does. A classic that keeps getting better through hardware iterations build confidence in sticking with it versions after versions. And when DT3 comes out, I’ll upgrade my DT2. Hopefully with USB-C this time!
Yes, announced January 19, 2017 and out May 29, 2017.
I’m an email hoarder…erm I mean “archivist”…so I just found the original announcement in my email account. Release price $679…
Cenk’s intro video, also linked in the release email announcement:
Ah yes, I got my DT that summer. Hard to believe that was 8 years ago now.
Anyone else unable to watch it without signing in to youtube? Getting a weird error saying I need to log in so they’re sure I’m not a bot… dafuq is this?
Works without issues on my phone…
This is the beginning of you becoming aware of your own programming.
He’s not ready yet. Don’t initiate him too fast.
I went for the Toraiz instead. It was released the same time, and it’s now dead as a dodo. Still works, but last update was v1.6 and discontinued. Goes to show how committed Elektron is sticking with their boxes and continue to update and upgrade for a while more.
Now I know why some Digitakt’s have sticky buttons.
Thanks for sharing. I’m just in a good mood in general but you put me in front of Digiboxes and my happy factor goes up 10x!
In case anyone’s curious, I tested how well the transient detection works when slicing a loop into 16 parts. The auto-slices weren’t super usable, so I went in manually and adjusted the points.
A viewer asked if slice points could be edited while looping. Turns out you can, which opened up some fun tricks.
I started using slices like single-cycle waveforms to add melodic touches inside a drum loop. Kinda surprised how flexible it got once I leaned into the limitations.
thanks for the clip
Allegedly (I haven’t tried it yet) fixed in firmware 1.15A
List of changes from OS 1.15 to 1.15A
Bug fixes
Slices could not be parameter locked when using the Slice TRIG mode in STEP RECORDING mode.
Yes great idea, feature request please
