Hi I just updated through Sysex and now my screen just says “Upraded, Please Restart”.
I’ve tried turn it off and then on and then it says: “Don’t turn off power” then immediately goes into “Upgraded Please Restart”. If I turn it off the same thing occurs all over again. I left it for hours on the message…no change. I left it off for hours…same thing.
What in the world do I do???
Consult the manual. Isn’t there a ‘Safe’ mode of sorts that you can activate by turning the unit on while holding the Function button? Maybe there’s an option there if you can boot into that. I’m not in front of my AK at the moment, unfortunately.
I tried again, with a new fresh download and nothing. After writing flash, rebooting and then the message “UI UPGRADED, PLEASE RESTART”.
Now back to 1.20
I’ve got an AK stuck in this state now. Support hasn’t gotten back to me with a solid fix yet, so if any one here has any ideas of how to get it usable, I’d love to hear them.
So far I’ve tried
Power cycling & power cycling into Test Mode
Reloading 1.12E from Test Mode startup
Reloading 1.2 from Test mode startup
Just before I get the UI Upgrade screen I do get the regular start up screen for a second, and the OS # is correct, so I’m pretty sure the update is being sent properly.
When I go into test mode and do a check, everything comes out fine .The UI Firmware version is given as 1.3.
i tried everything, had to send it in for warranty service… it was the first OS update i ever did, since i just got the thing 2 weeks prior… so… yeh, not very happy about it (to say the very least)…
in fact, i was raging pretty hard considering how many numerous ways there are to prevent this kind of thing (backup roms, failsafe rollback buffers, etc. etc. etc.) frankly, you should not be able to brick a unit of this caliber - the fact that it is possible is so so so so disappointing to me, considering how fucking simple it is to implement solutions that prevent it
also the necessity of updating via sysex message rather than some generic application that just flashes it over standard USB bus is pretty crazy IMHO
man i could rant about this all day - roms that require destructive flashing and which have no backup or failsafe are my biggest pet peeve of the tech world… granted, the “test mode” is supposedly the back up solution, but in this particular case it was not able to reload any OS of any version whatsoever
elektron responded to my support ticket by saying you should boot into the “test mode”, not go into any of the menus, then turn off the machine - wait at least 10 seconds, then turn it back on… and that is supposed to fix it… it didnt work so i sent it in - maybe that will work for you, give it a shot
