Well, I can’t speak for syncing it with other stuff yet but the manual does describe the various clocking options (clock out /Sync24 out etc). It also shows up as a MIDI device in Ableton Live via USB but I couldn’t get it to take notice of any start/stop options so may be a case of it only receiving MIDI note on/off, pitch and velocity. Need to have a play with it. Hoping I can record the outgoing MIDI as well but unsure if possible.
The sound generation is pretty limited, but what it does, it does well. It’s a tremendously well-built device - it’s pretty big and looks/feels professional.
My pro-tip thus far is to work at a quarter speed (or lower) from your desired tempo and use the divisions knob to manually enter notes from the four channels. Start at 1/8, then 1/16, then 1/32, and if you’re feeling brave, perhaps 1/64. You get way longer and more interesting patterns this way. So if your desired tempo is 120bpm, tap in 30bpm on the WOAS so you get all that extra space to play with. A bit like the Flux mode ‘hack’ on the Volca Keys if I recall.
Nah, can’t see anything coming out unfortunately. It’s just that in Live you can set the ‘to’ and ‘from’ MIDI settings which set me off on a false positive haha.
Also, the BRECAN firmware is on its way to me (via post as WOAS firmwares exist on SD cards) so soon I’ll be in breakbeat heaven and breakcore hell.
Finally shared some recordings - Will dropped off the BRECAN (breakbeat) firmware yesterday so I naturally installed it immediately. These are of both firmwares - breaks = BRECAN and synthesis = original WOAS firmware.
I was able to get one recently. I haven’t had much time yet, but I hooked it up today and messed around. This is a pretty basic thing that I recorded. It can get a little loud at times (WARNING). WOAS>DN
Sync is the most glaring drawback for this otherwise beastly machine. CV out as master works well though, even though it’s a little touchy to set your tempo predictably.
I do not understand this at all, and the manual is not so enlightening. Normally I go for devices that allow very exact programming, which is why I like Elektrons so much. But this is very musical in ways I haven’t heard before. Also love the choice of different operating systems. Wow.
