Orgeldream WOAS Aleatoric Drum Machine

Well, I can’t speak for syncing it with other stuff yet but the manual does describe the various clocking options (clock out /Sync24 out etc). It also shows up as a MIDI device in Ableton Live via USB but I couldn’t get it to take notice of any start/stop options so may be a case of it only receiving MIDI note on/off, pitch and velocity. Need to have a play with it. Hoping I can record the outgoing MIDI as well but unsure if possible.

The sound generation is pretty limited, but what it does, it does well. It’s a tremendously well-built device - it’s pretty big and looks/feels professional.

My pro-tip thus far is to work at a quarter speed (or lower) from your desired tempo and use the divisions knob to manually enter notes from the four channels. Start at 1/8, then 1/16, then 1/32, and if you’re feeling brave, perhaps 1/64. You get way longer and more interesting patterns this way. So if your desired tempo is 120bpm, tap in 30bpm on the WOAS so you get all that extra space to play with. A bit like the Flux mode ‘hack’ on the Volca Keys if I recall.

Guessing not… are you actually seeing it output midi data over USB?
It would be a really nice update if sync to external midi was added.

Thanks for the post!

Nah, can’t see anything coming out unfortunately. It’s just that in Live you can set the ‘to’ and ‘from’ MIDI settings which set me off on a false positive haha.

Also, the BRECAN firmware is on its way to me (via post as WOAS firmwares exist on SD cards) so soon I’ll be in breakbeat heaven and breakcore hell.

Drop us a beat man!

Finally shared some recordings - Will dropped off the BRECAN (breakbeat) firmware yesterday so I naturally installed it immediately. These are of both firmwares - breaks = BRECAN and synthesis = original WOAS firmware.

No idea what’s going on here but it sounds cool

I was able to get one recently. I haven’t had much time yet, but I hooked it up today and messed around. This is a pretty basic thing that I recorded. It can get a little loud at times (WARNING). WOAS>DN

Had I known they were going to carry them, I probably would’ve! Nah, I preordered direct a couple months ago.

I like it so far. I’m not quite sure the best way to use it with my other gear.

A little “Mohicaning”. I heard eo’s call.

Just a crappy voice memo recording. Not related to the post above.

dang, this thing looks awesome. too bad there’s no way for it to follow midi or CV clock… or is there?

Sync is the most glaring drawback for this otherwise beastly machine. CV out as master works well though, even though it’s a little touchy to set your tempo predictably.

I’ve been having a blast with the WOAS and a KO-II + DB-01. Three CV machines in their own isolated little biome.

Clarification/question: has anyone synced WOAS as a slave to midi clock via USB?

I haven’t tried it yet. Been meaning to.

HIERDAN firmware: MIDI clock sync / transport (in and out) works for me over USB. Tested with Ableton. Did not test OG firmware.

Awesome.

This thing seems like it would kill it as a eurorack module

It would definitely kill if you dropped it on someone’s nut from the third floor. It’s as thick as a birthday cake and three times the weight.

I do not understand this at all, and the manual is not so enlightening. Normally I go for devices that allow very exact programming, which is why I like Elektrons so much. But this is very musical in ways I haven’t heard before. Also love the choice of different operating systems. Wow.
