So today is the day. I will order an Analog Keys. I am in the process of reading the manual, I have watched all the tutorials I can on the net, anything else I should do to prepare? This will be my second myth ever. First board ever was the Kronos, I had the maschine before that, now this. Hoping it will work out well for travel. Thanks everyone!
Hi Bertotti,
Nice to see you here too
Maybe I am too late, but what about buing mine? It is 5 months old, in perfect condition, 2,5 more years of warranty… I changed mine for an analog four…
grtz wouzer
aka de wouzer, you know me from the NI forum.
Go out for a walk in your favourite outside areas, because when you will get the AK you won´t see the outside world again for a long time, this good it is!
If you want you could already download C6, and the free soundpacks. One came out just two days ago!
De wouzer sorry am. To late it is already a done deal. I wish I knew sooner. Should be easy to sell though thanks for offering!
I didn’t even look at sound packs and saw some references to C6 but have no idea what it is. I will go look thanks!
never mind. I wrote on the NI forum that I was selling mine… but I was not this specific. At the moment I feel very bad about selling mine. Love the A4 and my small live set setup, but also love the AK… but having both is a little too much luxury for me…
the C6 helps you to feed your AK with a new operating system or with sound packs. The sound packs are nice… but don’t forget to learn to create the sounds yourself.
I like to make my own sounds which is what draws me to this instrument. I would think if your selling your AK but already feel bad about it hold off. I will do all sorts of odd jobs to scrape cash together in a pinch, paining mowing, landscape, shoveling snow ( a joy in my area ) just saying get creative if you need the cash there are ways to get it although rarely are they elegant. I managed a long time, legally, doing stuff others wouldn’t touch. Now I’m older and don’t need to as often but on occasion or when a bug I start odd jobs again.
Sorry I missed your post about selling your AK!
I looked at C6 but it doesn’t say it will work with Yosemite so I am holding off till I find out for sure.
I’m on os 10.10.2
Congratulations!
The AK is my favorite Elektron machine for sure. You’re going to love it - but I do have one bit of advice that you can implement…or not…
I got mine recently and I’m actually considering WIPING the patterns. Not the preset sounds or preset kits, but just the pattern data. I don’t really get inspired by pre-existing patterns, because there’s only so much you can do with them…
I like starting with a blank sequencer and then just using that fat knob to scroll through sounds while playing - and then the inspiration hits.
I think wiping the actual preset sounds might be a bit too much, because some of them are really good and inspiring, and that “Unmechanical” soundpack from Floppydisk Pirates is actually really amazing.
But to each their own.
Re: C6, you don’t necessarily need it if you have another sequencer that can transmit sysex files (I don’t think Maschine does this yet).
Anyway, let us know how you like it!
I will be all over the midwest over the next two weeks which I guess lessons the pain that because of one item my whole order is backordered for at least two weeks. Oh well when she gets here I will let you know what I think.
I wonder if logic X would work in place of c6?
Congrats…you’ll love it.
A lovely instrument but also a great box of tricks. The synth, the tight sequencer, the FX, the I/O options, the keyboard (with really nice aftertouch) and the joystick add up to a really inspirational package. And it looks great too.
Pretty sure logic x should do sysex no problem. One of those features that usually lurks somewhere in every DAW. I use a really old version of Cubase on a PC to do sysex backups from old synths and it works fine.
I think C6 will be fine on Yosemite though.

My entrance to the fold was only possible by extralegal means. No regrets
Shit happens. Sometimes we do what we need to survive. I was lucky enough to grow up where odd jobs could be found in a small town and farming community, city life, to me, is much harder.
No need to bother with that though. Just do a new initialised project. I recommend to do a new project for each song you are gonna make. Just to keep things tidy.
De woozier have you hooked the two together the AK and A4? I would think that would be interesting if possible.
I’m linking a A4 + Ak and it’s a fatastic combo, Great to have in song on one of them and jamming over on an other.( and i can keep my kicks apart )
Hi De woozier
Just out of interest, how much do you want to sell the Analog Keys for?
1200, 4 mnth old
As Tonfarben sais, a new project for eatch song .
I wrote
al shortcuts down once i had my A4 and put them in my sight. after a few weeks knew them wiht my eyes shut.
Tip : Whenever I make a pattern i name it by number - so a01 or f10 etc… then I name the Kits by number of the pattern a01 - f10 etc… I do thesame for the button -controls ( so for ex. button A changes the fiter of track 1 and the amp of track 3 = 13filter1amp3 >>> on screen this will show 13f )
for me it’s a easy way of finding everything back and see the links immedeatly .
- At first make a Kit for every pattern - later on you will find the advantages of having a kit sheared by multiple patterns.
- Most of all - fool around - make mistakes an don’t be afraid to loose your stuff- it’s maybe the most importand part of lurning and this will make you discovering - enjoy
PLAYING is the most important part of music i think… … .
thanks and very fair price. I´ll let you know if I´m going for the Keys and see if you still have it.
cheers
The “one kit one pattern” idea is gonna save you alot of headaches. And you can also expand it. I do a lot 128step patterns, or even 256steps, to have good chord progressions, long enough to be interesting for a long time. So I chain 2 or 4 64step-patterns. And those share one kit, of course. A possible layout for organizing could look like this:
slot1: kit A1-4
slot2:
slot3:
slot4:
slot5: kit A5-8
slot6:
slot7:
slot8:
…
This would be for two chains of each four patterns
Chain1: A1 A2 A3 A4
Chain2: A5 A6 A7 A8
You have enough kit slots to keep some of them empty.
And if you are fancy and make this: while the main chord progression in Chain1 is 4 Patterns long you want to have two different bass sounds in your bass voice in a question answer-composition you still have space left to copy kit A1-4 to slot 2 and assign the copied kit to pattern 2 and 4. Now you can change the bass-voice sound on that copied kit and everything will play as you wanted. I would additionaly rename the kit so slot1 kit would be called “kit A1&3” and the kit on slot2 would be called “kit A2&4”.
Sorry if I confused you.
