Ordered yesterday, read about Overbridge today

So I have been looking for a reason to buy in to Elektron for a while now, first I was looking at the Analog Four, then came the Analog Keys and the Rytm seems nice as well!

Yesterday at when the 15% off campaign started i decided it was time. I had a look at forums (probably dating one year or older) and most people said that the Octatrack was where to start, at least it seems like its the most complete in the series?

So I ordered one.

At the moment I have invested a lot in my computer with DAWs and software synths, for example Bazille, Serum, Komplete 10, Reason, Logix Pro X, so i thought I could just make samples in my DAW and put them on the Octatrack!

Then i read about this Overbridge today where it would work the other way around, and that sounds like a nice prospect indeed, since i already invested a lot in my computer workstation. Alas it seems it will not work for Octatrack which makes me think that maybe there is a revised version of the Octatrack in the pipeline.

What do you guys think, should I cancel my order and get A4, Keys or Rytm instead? I still want my device to work on its own, making music using only the device, but hooking it up to my computer and picking up from there sounds really neat!

EA revised OT is unlikely.

The OT is the coolest piece of hardware I own.
The lack of the unreleased Overbridge support is not going to change that for me.

If you want to multitrack to your DAW, simply use some kind of MIDI set up, and do it older school style, theres nothing wrong with that.

Give the OT a chance, the resale value is good if you decide you dont like it.
However, the OT does a bit of everything, give it some time.
It has become my central hardware hub, and prompted me to completely ditch working with DAW’s, yet thats what I was going for.

Thanks for the replies!

So after I make something that resembles a song on the OT, I will be able to get it in to my DAW somehow? I suppose I would have to get a midi interface with MIDI out and sync it with my daw? And then just record it into my daw?
Can i record OT tracks separately in my daw? I couldn’t find separate audio outs on the back, but maybe if i do it on or two tracks at a time?

The idea is to start out on the OT and then do the fine-tuning and add some effects and perhaps more ambient stuff or records voice in the DAW. Perhaps I’m at a friends house paying around with the OT and my Bass Station II, and then later when I come home put it all in the DAW and continue from there.

You could just record 1 track at a time into your DAW with the others muted. A long winded but simple way around the lack of individual outs.
For midi sync you could plug the OT into the Bass station midi ports and sync through the BS2 USB rather than buy an interface.

That would work i suppose. Could I leave all the tracks playing and have one track sent to my DAW and record just that one? With the queue out maybe?

Yes! And I guess I could even chose to send the clock either from the DAW or OT since the Bass Station II does have midi clock out (and still in) now with the new firmware update, doesn’t it? Good call!

it’s VERY unlikely Elektron will release a new octatrack anytime soon. There is so much left to do to expand on the current one it is so crazy.

Get an OT, you won’t regret the journey !

Thanks everyone!

I have decided not to change my order.
Prepare to answer beginner questions
