just listened to the new orbital album. what’s your thoughts? a return to form or rehashed nostalgia?
personally, blue album takes a lot of beating, but i think this might do it.
those wonky trumpets on ‘hoo hoo ha ha’ are epic.
one down side, i think most songs sound rushed, they could have made all of them 10 minute epics.
Have not hear this yet, really look forward.

I have a huge Orbital -binge going at the moment. I used to love their sound in the early 90s and have recently been buying the early stuff back. I originally lost my interest somewhere around the time of Satan. That song did the same for me as Can I Play With Madness did to Iron Maiden as a kid. Couldn’t stand it and eventually lost interest in the band.
Snivilization, In Sides and the early stuff are still amazing, but the new album did not do it for me. For me it’s too far removed from the sound I associate with Orbital. Then again I only listened to it once this far. It sounded like a stab at a horror movie soundtrack thing and there’s so many artists that do that genre better. I’ve always loved the rounded and ”soft” nature of Orbital’s sound and somehow they lost it on their way here.
I never liked that Satan track , I don’t listen to rock / metal etc and this seemed a bad attempt to mix the two , but tracks like Belfast , chime , much of the early stuff / singles are really nice . I think orbital have a certain sound , though this lead to a slump for quite a while , I think it was a wise move for them to stop for a while.
There are some nice tracks in their solo albums too , worth checking out.
I think I stopped buying their around the box / dr who but this new release is on the way via cd.
there was a track on the radio the other day. I thought it sounded quite Grime influenced. Not heard anyone else say it’s “their grime album” though, so maybe it was just that one

Just had a listen through.
It sounds like orbital , not sure what the grime track is , there are some nice tracks , it’s anbit mixed in general.
The extras are a few studio things I doubt will ever get replayed.
I think the tunes they play live / release are definitely the better tracks.
I’ve just trawled though amazon music , there’s so much rubbish filling it up. Amazing / inspiring in a way , a few chords through a reverb can be enough to make an album !!
And hip hop is in a very bad state , I couldn’t bear to look through other genres.
embarrassingly I actually just went through the album and can’t find “the grime one” either, so either I heard the radio presenter wrong or I was high on paint fumes (was painting our lounge at the time)
I think it is a nice comeback after I thought Orbital was done inspirationally with the blue album. Half of the album sounds good to me, the other half feels a bit strained. Maybe a bit too much political tv voice comeback.
I really like the way Orbital does their recordings though. The sub bass always hits nicely on my subwoofers despite not being overly compressed.
Orbital solidified me on being obsessed with FM synthesis, which lead me to buy a DX7 and Digitone.
Sometimes I need to listen to an album or certain songs a few times before I really like it… I can hear Orbital in this album, but nothing on it speaks to me yet. Gonna listen a bit more.
I got really into Orbital when I was 16 (96) & have loved them ever sense. Def like their older stuff the best, but this could be due to nostalgia

To date, this is definitely my favourite track. Back then I had an old Toshiba brick laptop with a dial up 28.8k modem connecting to America Online… I wanted to be a hacker… ahhh nostalgia:

Orbital are more about a brilliant live show with the odd brilliant track nowadays. Still love them but I don’t think there gonna push boundarys anymore. Orbital is orbital

The brothers Hartnoll are fucking amazing live! Not to be missed. Their bass left me feeling damaged.
