I was literally pulling my hair out with my 606 and this last week. if you do find a pre made cable, please link me up. The one I use must have different pin config.
Not sure about the exact wiring, so I don’t know if it’ll work as expected, but I did come across an adapter like this:
Thanks, I haven’t had a chance to look yet, but info seems like it would work. I’m gonna order and I’ll post my results with it.
OP-XY → iPad / AUM Transport Start-Stop*
I’ve been using the OP-XY a lot lately together with iOS synths in AUM. Sequencing from the OP-XY works perfectly.
However, I’d also like to use some iOS sequencers (for example Octachron for drums), since I find them more convenient for drum programming.
For that, I need the OP-XY to send a transport start/stop signal to AUM so both sequencers start at the same time.
I tried MIDI mapping the start/stop buttons, but they don’t send MIDI CC. The play button sends a MIDI note, but it changes with every MIDI channel, so that doesn’t really work either. I also tried the MMC option in AUM, but that doesn’t seem to work with the OP-XY.
Am I missing something?
Is there any workaround to get transport start/stop from the OP-XY into AUM?
The app Link to MIDI should do it
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately doesn‘t work. I can start the OP-XY with the app, but not AUM, despite Ableton Link being activated.
Anyways, it‘s not the workflow I have in mind. What I would like to do is press play on the OP-XY, and with that also start AUM.
What are your midi settings on the two devices?
The XY in this case should be set to send clock (it sends start / stop along with clock). The AUM should be set to receive it.
Thanks for the help. I found the solution. AUM does not support MIDI clock in, so it doesn‘t work the way I hoped it would. I just gave Drambo a try and it works perfectly fine.
My bad, you are right, it only works with AUM as master.
with the OP-XY you can sequence 7 tracks on the analog Rytm from one track on the lowest octave of the track, the tracks are 6-12 + Auto Channel or individual track channel.
if you route the audio via USB you can use 2 tracks (l+r) for stereo filtering and midi, the CV out from the XY for expression/cv control on the rytm.
step components work on all tracks, the compression and drive do all sorts of wonders to the digital input ![]()
Oh very interesting setup.
Do you post any of your tracks (or videos) online?
Lovely, I really like the vibe and sound design.
Just read this TE interview
OP-XY interview
and see this in the interview:
“ are there any underrated features?
i like linking tracks together. it allows you to play two or more tracks at the same time when pressing the keys. you can build really big sounds this way, layering sounds on top of each other. as an example, you could use a rhodes sample for the attack, a pad for the sustain and some arpeggiated pluck that creates movement over time. that sort of thing is really fun to experiment with.”
Wait… it’s possible to link tracks? How???
Hold the button for the track you want to be the one controlling, hit the button for the track you want to be linked to it. Now the second track will play the notes the first track plays.
Whoooooha thank you!
This is interesting. In multiple places he describes features that Elektron devices have had for years as unique concepts, which definitely tracks with where he says “I don’t pay attention to other devices” but also can get into that “well maybe you should” territory.
like he says that track layering (which exists on digitone 1/2 and now on syntakt as well) is a unique concept that you can’t do on other synths, despite numerous multitimbral synths having combi modes to layer patches.
then he effectively describes the syntakt chord engine, which some people don’t seem to like but I personally enjoy quite a lot:
i made a sound engine where that had three oscillators playing sort of a triad, or a power chord. i mapped one of the knobs to change the oscillator intervals and apply different inversions. modulating that knob was wild. it was quite a unique but somewhat difficult concept to use, so it didn’t hold up all the way.
The end where he says it’s been awhile since an update and that there’s a reason to be excited about the future is nicely promising. Hopefully they get some of the popular requests implemented soon.
that has been evolved from the OP-Z and I think the chord progressions are by now part of the maestro player, which can be used on any track.
Some of those prototype screenshots with colour are cool.
