I think i do it this way:
1 press the note you want to play/sequence/put in focus AND KEEP IT PRESSED
2 press record shortly (now the note is in focus mode - keep the note pressed)
3 enter the trigs on the sequence, where you want the note to be triggered
4 release the note key and proceed to the next note you want to sequence
I was about to write that this was probably patched since 1.0.9 but I just tried it on 1.0.40 and “focus mode” still works for me. The step you press has to be empty for it to work. Piano key + rec +shift + empty step. Exit: same piano key + shift + rec. Note that the key presses has to be in sequence, not all together at once.
I really hope to see an update where the sequencer only show steps for the currently active key, since every key often ends up lit rendering the sequencer step visualization useless.
On the newest firmware, 1.0.40 it seems bluetooth midi control is not working. When I select ctrl (2) I am unable to advertise by pressing the first encoder. I am also unable to exit the com/system page without re-starting. Anyone else notice this bug?
EDIT: nevermind - user error. Needed more caffeine.
If I have an odd bar pattern looping polyrhythmically it resets when I play a new scene rather than continuing where it left, really disrupts the flow of a track. Is there anyway to just let it continue playing until muted? Feels like another downside of pattern chaining to me
They just changed the number on the front of the manual. The actual content is identical to the previous version. So there is still no up to date manual available as a pdf.
Just found my op xy is doing that thing of erasing the entire song structure again if I seemingly change or select a new scene on the clip page. Think that got ironed out previously but appears to be back.
It’s basically a smart transpose feature. Write a little groove in, say, C Major and then go to the brain and press the F key - it will transpose everything to F Major.
I never use it like that personally - what I find it useful for is telling me what key I’m writing in. I play by ear so it’s super useful to go in and see exactly what key I’m currently in, and what notes on that scale might be playable. It’s been really eye opening to realize that I play in a lot of unusual keys, so it’s helped me lean into that.
Yeah, I feel like in the original release videos with Will, brain was big upped to be this amazing thing; but it’s really just a transpose. I honestly thought it could do so much more, but it can’t.
It’s a little smarter than a normal transpose - like I think the Elektron transpose is just +/-x number of steps. This one does let you transpose into a different modality, like from C minor to C major, by playing a chord on the brain.
I would call it a modal reharmonisation tool. It determines the mode your music is in. You can then transpose a sequence diatonically within a mode by selecting single steps or you can go outside the mode by selecting more then one note. You can punch it in live or sequence it in its own independent sequencer track. Very cool and very useful if you like that sort of thing.
Doing things like reharmonising a major key to its minor counterpart is really cool. Especially if you have a sampled loop going that is in that major key.
