it says that it comes with a set of rubber bumpers. perhaps, to stick on the edge of the tray or on OP-XY?
I’ve been using one of these with my XY, looks good and just the right angle (a lot of the 3D ones I’ve seen angle the XY too much for me). Doesn’t block the PB and breaks down to make transporting it easier:
Would be great to have a scale mode, by setting the brain to a manual scale. I notice it’s missing the scale on occasion when I’m setting it to auto.
Anyways, a very productive device for sure. Haven’t figured out the arranger yet but it’s quite intuitive so far.
Two (basic) questions …
-
Is it possible to copy a bar to another position via the clipboard? I don’t mean duplicating, but rearranging.
-
In multi-bar patterns, how can I cycle a specific bar for editing?
I’ve had the XY for a few months now and I’m afraid that both isn’t possible. But maybe I have overlooked something.
1st question is not possible
2nd question you Tap the bar button while in the bar menu. Which means If you are not in shift+bar you have to tap it twice
Thanks
Yes, I am aware of that. I probably expressed myself in a misleading way: I’m talking about audio playback. I just want the bar displayed in the bar menu to be played as loop.
Anyone else having timing issues recording audio over usb synced to midi clock? If I send clock to opxy and record the audio the audio comes in 8ms early missing the first beat. I’ve tried in ableton and GarageBand iOS. Not sure why the delay is so bad when it’s all over one usb cable, I’ve had it work rock solid with a Roland interface and external midi gear.
Agree. Sometimes trying to edit a single bar is a PITA as it will play the entire pattern and all bars.
There are a lot of really weird sounds in there, exactly my thing
Seems like this is caused when monitoring incoming audio on both ableton and GarageBand, purely software issue, not op xy. Annoying though as I need to figure out a new way to do overdub recordings.
If opxy had an option to use the extra audio out as a CUE out it would be very helpful
Edit: plus crucially the ability to send the audio input from usb out through the cue so we can monitor it
Bar identification is inconvenient guesswork at times. Feels like an easy win for an update to make the play head more visible.
I know, there’s a screen on the XY. Maybe some type of additional playhead indicator could pop up if more than one bar exists. Then there could be an option to loop the current bar too.
Can we just take a moment to thank all the cat’s out there on YouTube doing instructional videos on the OP-XY. Folks like Son Wu, Shimmery, and Mo Chreach. Incredible that they have sorted this thing out. The file system is largely undocumented and the sample file system is just weird…
I worked in documentiation for Sun Microsystems for 10 years and I feel qualified enough to state that the 124 page Teenage Engineering OP-XY manual is woefully bad. That TE employee who was on the 2 hour Anderton’s video shouldn’t be writing manuals.
Kudos to the community. (and chat where I find many of my answers)
Easily the most polarizing synth I own. It’s entirely unintuitive, no doubt… but I will surely keep it for a very long time. Why? I have no idea.
I thoroughly loved the XY, UNTIL I delved into the sampling. No ability to delete, or even NAME your samples from the unit itself? It’s really a mess even on the latest firmware update. It’s gone from being one of my favorite acquisitions to one of my most frustrating and least enjoyed. It needs an overhaul.
That’s why I do all the sample editing on the computer. At the moment it’s not possible to tidy up own samples directly on the device. But I firmly believe that this will be improved at some point. Hopefully sooner than later.
Until then, I use a tiny USB C female-to-female adapter to avoid having to constantly plug the USB cable in and out of the XY. So I can leave the USB cable plugged into XY and plug the other end of it either into the power supply or into the USB cable to the Mac.
Same. I was wishing that the XY would be like the OP-Z but with better hardware and better sampling. Only one of those was true
Currently I’m all-in on the m8, which is like a tiny handheld Simpler.
