My biggest gripe is the lack of most sequencers being able to play notes outside of the keyboard range.
Yep, it’s pretty poor. That and endless being a PITA to use having to re-enter everything again each time.
In awe lately of how well the punch effect can isolate (and simultaneously boost) bass from samples. On some material, it’s as good or better than some stem separation apps I’ve tried
Please let there be exciting news for the OP-1 Field at superbooth
OPXY just got a very small bug fix update- also hoping they are holding the big stuff back for SB!
Still loving my OP-1 Field. I bring it in my backpack all the time along with my NDH-20s, it’s great for airports and trains, or just sitting with it for an hour in the park after work. The Neumann cans are a great partner to the Field, they block out most outside noise for making music on the move. That also makes them great for tracking.
The OP-1 definitely pulls me more towards proper songwriting, recording ambiance, guitar, voice and sounds from the real world. The tape workflow just works for me, especially since learning the shift+3 shortcut for looping the highlighted clip, and shift+arrow to seamlessly navigate between sections. I’m excited to see if it will get any updates this weekend, laying down drums is maybe my least favourite thing with it, just feels a bit tedious compared to say a KOII.
Special shoutout to Hooch for showing off what’s possible house-music wise on this thing in the hands of a skilled operator, and Novak the Enjoyer for generously sharing of his songwriting experience on the OP-1.
Agree on the portability factor being a big draw. Different environments can be much more inspiring and it’s much less of a barrier/hassle than using other devices to unpack & re-pack it during those in-between moments. It’s even useful moving it around within my studio since some of my synths and other instruments are away from my desk. So recording / layering on the op1f is easier than rolling my chair back and forth to my daw. Running sounds through the fx makes it even better
I also hated doing drums on it for a long time but I’m actually starting to enjoy it, using a mixture of the finger, endless, and playing in live. I’m getting quick with endless , punching in 1-2 bars for my main drum groove and sometimes just punching in half a bar or less for accents & percs. I gravitate towards endless since you can get either 1/8 swing or 1/16 swing based on the resolution selected. Different swing levels on different sounds can make things very interesting
