@rephazer your delicious drums and synth presets are amazing, the best sample pack I ever bought by far.

I love that this thread has been reduced to dream firmware updates :joy:

Thank you so much for the kind words and the heads up. I am glad people are still enjoying these sounds every once in a while

Yeah the hype is gone it seems and people longing for new and more stuff will never go away, right? For me personally there is no other device that has inspired me to make 7 albums on it since it’s release and is still inspiring me to make more.

I think of this thread as an aggregate for all things op1f and usually go to the OP Forums for more detailed things like workflows, fixes and creative output.
But yeah. Once the hype is gone, you’re basically just left with sharing songs and daydreaming about what your gear could be.
I’m currently browsing through the SP404mk2 thread and it’s basically the same.
That being said…what could we be talking about if not these few subjects?
I’m always in for exchanging ideas and stuff

I mean… yeah  I shared an actual dream that I had which I thought was unusual b/c I don’t normally dream of the Op-1 haha

Just two days ago I was writing posts about how the OP-1F is an excellent gas fighting tool and laying out new ways in which I was exploring using it, so I think there’s a little bit of everything!

I do appreciate how this thread has remained pretty positive and productive!

To be clear I’m delighted with the OP1F as it is. I’m sure there will eventually be interesting updates.

Anybody has a link to a solid clean piano/Grand piano patch/sample for OP-1 field? Stereo would be nice.

@rephazer yours are great (the ones made in drumkit) But they distort when playing chords. And they are a little dirty/distorted (which is nice!), But I would also like a clean patch. Should be possible with a realistic piano on this device, no?

Maybe this one by Cuckoo

Not sure which one you are talking about, because I have various sound packs available (Broadcast/Modulation/Cassette/Fantasy) with various pianos. The one in Field Fantasy being the most clean one which is a grand piano.

Also it shouldn’t distort. Perhaps change the tape gain and check if your master volume is not distorted via the gain setting?

Resampled a recent OP-1F track in Drambo and took it to a new place.
Thanks for watching :pray:t3::level_slider:

3 new drum packs!

I really appreciate them releasing a few more packs from this guy. They sound pretty good and it’s always nice to get some easy pre-curated kits :sunglasses:

All the kits did come with all the hits set to note length not full one shot
So the -> not the ->|
Which I then changed and resaved/renamed the kits. Minor thing and probably just a personal preference, but I generally prefer my drum hits to be set to ->|

Thanks for the tip! I’d read the other two ā€˜Behind the Sound’ things but not that latest one - the other two posts didn’t contain new samples, this one does.

I feel like a dunce for asking this, but we’ve been having some good conversation here lately so i’ve worked up the courage.

Anyone have better insight into the OP-1F master compressor?
I have no clue really how to engage it, use it effectively, or use it at all really.

The most understanding I have is when I’m resampling and want to dirty something up I’ll run up the drive and generally if it’s drums I’ll shorten the release and if it’s melodic I’ll turn the release knob around a bit before realizing I have no real clue what’s going on.

More than anything I’m curious if cranking the drive makes the signal hit the compressor. Does lowering the final levels in the master page do anything to the compressor threshold?
seems to be sparse information on actual usage of this and i don’t think I can ear-understand it, but admittedly I could try harder to learn it using very extreme settings to see if anything changes to my ear. Any thoughts, feelings, input appreciated!

I also have no idea how it works. Sometimes it’s just a soundgoodizer (sounds like it’s bringing out lower signals while smushing transients in an appealing way) other times it just adds hideous digital clipping.

per the original OP1 manual:

drive narrows the difference between high and low audio levels, and makes the output sound louder and more compact. at very high levels of drive, the audio starts to sound distorted.

release sets how quick the drive will narrow the difference between high and low audio levels, and at mid to long release times, you’ll start to notice the drive as a ā€œpumpingā€ sound.

you may also use drive to add texture and to make your final mix more dirty and raw.

however it definitely sounds different on field, and not just in a ā€œhigher qualityā€ way. OP1 field’s manual reproduces the above and adds a warning:

however in doing so you will lose dynamics and your mix might sound dull and tiring. less is often more in this case so find a balance that works for you.

Nice! I hadn’t thought to compare the original manual with the op-1f manual and i’d last read the original manual too long ago to remember.

I think that’s actually really helpful in understanding that they interact together and that maybe I wasn’t so far off with feeling like the drive pushes the signal to the threshold of the compressor?

It’s also good to read this and remember that it’s probably good to use as a tool in resampling contexts (like taming the dynamics of a drum loop), but as they suggest use lightly in a mix/master context.

I always tend to lower the output volume (on the drive page) before starting to add drive. I’ve always just found that around 70 volume, 100-300 release, and 30-50 drive with a slightly slower attack tends to get me to places that I enjoy with the master compressor. It’s just settings I’ve figured out with a decade of the OP-1 and I find they sound good on the Field as well.

Even though I do hate ā€œtutorialsā€ that just tell you what settings to set it at without saying what they do lol. But yeah, I’ve found turning down the volume on the page and then drive goes a long way to getting a tamer distortion while adding compression.

If you’ve got some few bucks to spare, I’d advise you to buy this :

It’s a gold mine and should really help with every TE design.
I know it helped me a lot a first.
And it will most definitely help with the master section!
