OP-1 field

I just use this HUB that has 3.5mm out and it allows me to audition audio to headphones or a speaker:

Or if you already have a small USB hub (like this Anker one) you can use the Apple usb-c to 3.5mm dongle to route audio as well:

Yep, and holding shift while dropping would change that key to A/B mode. It also did all the slice length calculations to make it line up for different length L/R samples.

I decided to move this all out to its own app, as it was at odds with how the rest of digichain’s workflow.

Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks!

This is what it sounds like

Nice! And a great setup with the mixer. I thought you were connecting them direct.

no midi sync between op-1 and op-z?

When I just want to quickly play music I use the usb c cable but the TX6 brings more versatility

They are connected through usb c and set to same tempo so kind of synced. The OPZ is sending midi arps to OP-1 field Dimension synth

am i blind? i don’t see a usb cable from op-z to op-1 in that video?

Sorry I wanted to write Ā« Bluetooth Ā» :joy:

Transport buttons and notes are working through midi Bluetooth. So pushing «play » on the OP-1 will trigger the OPZ and as they are set on same tempo that does the trick for syncing

I gave up and bought an OP-Z. No regrets.

Who uses a hologram microcosm with the OP-1? Is it a good match?

It is a long time I didn’t buy a new gear I need nothing but want something new :see_no_evil:

I’ve used both the Microcosm and Mood 2 with it, and they’re both a lot of fun with any synth, really. I wanted battery power, however, so now I’m using an iPad and some glitch/granular sound mangling apps.

The microcosm pairs nicely with pretty much anything. However, it truly shines when it’s clock-synced, so if you have any piece of kit that lets you convert op-1f USB midi to the 5-pin midi of the microcosm, you’re good to go. Otherwise, some of the microcosm FX algorithms don’t unfold their whole potential.

How do you deal with the lack of in/out to create fx loops? Do you add an audio interface?

I could really use some creative usecases/tips to kickstart my love affair with my OP-1F again.

I find it necessary to resample quite a lot to get the sounds I want - and it works perfect, but is a bit cumbersome to do in practice. How do you get to where you want?

Also: It is the only equipment I own (besides the beast my name suggests, that I’m trying to do without for a short while), and I don’t use a DAW. So perhaps some of you also have some tips for mixing/mastering with the few settings that are available in the device?

Dunno if this is going to help, but here goes.

  1. as far as resampling goes, it’s a bit tedious, but resampling works like this on many machines. You have to be patient and go with the flow. At times, I import samples that I heavily processed in my DAW or in another machine. But most of the time, I just resample through tapes and FXs in order to get the texture I want.

  2. mixing and mastering on this device is more than tedious : for me, it’s just not really doable. The Drive FX on the master is more of a mojo effect, the mixer and its quirky ways is not intuitive and the overall results you can yield are way more easily achieved on a DAW - which I simply do : transfer the tapes and mix/master with the DAW.
But at times, I’ll admit that using the mixer and the master FX can yield cool results.
Disclaimer : this is my way of doing it, but that’s just me.
I usually work on a single idea (just working with 1 song on the device). I use the vintage, porta and mini disc for texture on parts, resample on the studio tape. Then, on the studio tape, I mix through the mixer and try to get creative with the drive fx and punch fx.
It gives a nice touch to some ideas - mostly lofi and ambient with real instruments I played through the various tapes.
In the end, very limited workflow but helps delivering a particular texture

I really hope that TE will heavily upgrade the workflow soon bc im close to selling my op-1f; frustration just keeps piling up

Of all the devices I’ve owned over the years, I think the OP1F ranks top in the ā€œwhat could have beenā€ tables. We all have our own ideas on here to improve/change the workflow and it’s often a device that frustrates because it’s so easy to envisage these changes in practice.

I’m still content to have the OP1F around though I’m not using it nearly enough. Barely at all right now besides taking on holiday.
