I doubt it. The device has around 5GB storage space and can store up to eight tapes which take 4GB, so 1GB remains for other stuffs that may be shared among saved patches, lifted takes (clipboard) which can even be 500MB in edge case.
Iām trying out a new workflow where I write all my music on the OP-1 but mix and master in daw. Iāve given daws a try before but it never really worked out for me, but this time I at least finished a track. Gain staging isnāt great (as in pretty bad) and itās overproduced with all the things a daw can do, but itās something. For this forum, thereās some relevance in the fact that I used the OP-1 not to write one complete track, but rather first the piano part all on its own, record into into Luna (the daw of choice), then the drum loop also recorded into Luna, separately. Both of them using tape tricks and stuff live from the OP-1 as I went about it.
I donāt know, results arenāt great, but thereās something about how I did it that appeals to me. If I can just learn how to record and mix properly in a daw -
Just wanna praise your sound packs again. Theyāre top notch and inspiring!
When I had it connected to my computer it said that I still had 2.7GB of space free so I was kind of hopeful that was usable space but perhaps not.
I like it! I feel this music would fit well with an indie game. Ever thought about that?
You are too kind! Thanks for the heads up.
Cheers.
I actually am in video game development, but as a writeršso youāre pretty close to the markšÆ
There guys will do or say anything to get clicks, that the name of the game after allā¦
Iāve spent about 6 months with the field; never owned any other TE product. The honeymoon phase was phenomenal. There are a couple things that prevent it from being the all-in-one device i was hoping for
The sample chopping experience on the op1 is atrocious; no lazy chop, just 1 zoom level, no snap to zero crossing, random pops and clicks that never go away, canāt edit all samples at onceā¦
Arranging / mixing is also less than ideal. Lack of undo doesnāt bother me, itās just way more of a mental load to gain stage and mix. The bugs are the worst, particularly small bits of tape that donāt get lifted properly and throw off everything else
All that said, those things are still usable, but going back to other devices felt way too refreshing; being able to focus more on creating good tunes, not wasting time removing a pop, pitching down each chop, resampling to apply more than 1 effect, etc.
All that said, last night i tried hooking up koala sampler with the field and it was pretty great all around. It enables ipad audio loopback in koala as well so itās super quick to sample any sound from the ipad or the field. Itās super portable, flexible, and tactile. Looking forward to exploring that combo a lot more
I was informed by TE last week, that they are working on fixing this.
He made some pretty solid remarks and I was liking a few of the jams he made. Some of the points have been made far too much and irrelevant overall I think. Also whatās up with these cover photos? I canāt imagine them seeing a big uptick in view or subscribers when they use them.
Did you ever figure this out? Just got this combo and am trying to at least get midi going over usb from OP1F to M8. Thanks! @MichaalHell @BassesAndPads
I dont have the m8 anymore. But i dont think This issue has been resolved. I think the original thesis stands true, that midi and audio is messing up the midi data stream. Or rather OP-1 canāt read the data properly
Sorry, I have not tried it again since then. I just use each device on its own. Unfortunately, I also canāt check it at the moment as Iām on travel for work.
It also allows Loopback in Ableton Note, which lets you record apps like Koala into Ableton, synced with Link, which is pretty neat.
Big update from Koala on Tuesday i hear.
Think Jonās comment about OP-1 made me laugh, to paraphrase best part is the sampler.
it is a dope sampler though!
Great for quick sampling!
