OP-1 field

I might sell all my entire field collection. Op1, tx-6 and tp-7. Sad, but honestly, I just don’t use them as much as I hoped. Stunning gear in everyday. I haven’t even opened the tp-7 from the box! From all the TE products, the one I used non stop almost daily is the OPZ, wish they made a better built updated version.

Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

thank you for the detailed explanation! i too hate to work with the piano roll, i also record hw and usually deal with the audio later!

can you pls just tell me how do you connect your elektrons to the tx-6 and op-1f? with audio ins/outs or over usb (usb-b to usb-c cable)?
can elektrons control Op-1f with midi over usb (midi notes, cc and clock)?

Audio is just Digitakt, Digitone, and OP1F each on their own channel into TX-6, then TX-6 connects to PC as an audio interface basically.

for midi, I have the Digitakt connected to PC via USB as well. From there, Digitakt Midi Out goes to Digitone Midi In, and Digitone USB connects to OP1F USB.

Digitakt takes midi input from USB only, and only outputs via Midi; Digitone does the opposite.

Digitone sequences the OP1 synth/drum machine, which is great, because at the limit you can have 4 tape tracks looping in sync with the elektron sequence as well as an extra “track” midi sequenced.

In addition, OP1F can “close the loop” so to speak by connecting over bluetooth with ableton. that way, if i find i need a softsynth for whatever reason, I have a wireless midi controller to hand as well.

Thnx a lot! This was very informative!

How do you feel about the mother reverb in the op1f? I gotta say it sounds absolutely amazing, even compared with the 1978. Any thoughts? Do you use it?

Yes, I use it more than I should admit. Either as a slight touch on the master, or as an all in sound design tool for samples, or I don’t know, lots of stuff.

It’s clean, sharp and does remind me a bit of the CXM as you say, but it doesn’t have those looooong, haunting tails or that absolutely distant shore sound that the CXM does so well.

However, I’ve now done what I never thought I would, and started using a daw. So at this point, all bets are off

I’ve even been contacted and asked if I want to write about it. As if somebody would care. Well, apparently, someone did. But yeah … I’m giving daw another go

Let’s hear about it! Which one and why?

Well it looks like a fine addition to the “I’m thinking of going ITB” post!

Luna

I was looking at my TE kits, mainly the TX-6 and TP-7, and realised it’s a lot of money for functionally very little power. I don’t mind, they hold other values, but just for the sake of it, I moved a multi-track file from the TP-7 over to GarageBand and did a mix there. I did things with that mix in 15 minutes I couldn’t in my modest outboard gear, simply for lack of function, and it got me thinking, what’s the equivalent of the tape and recording experience that TE do so well, in a computer? Certainly not a daw.

Then it occured to me - well, there is one daw that kind of has the same approach. That would be Luna.

So I got myself an Apollo Solo now and am learning Luna. Which didn’t take long, since it doesn’t really do much, which is why I’m thinking if any daw would work for me, this would be the one.

I’ve been thinking the same about the TX6 and TP7.

Reading along with these threads, it seems that tracking and editing with these and the OP-1 is possible, but requires a lot of back and forth. I love hardware, but for editing I prefer a DAW because it’s all just easier and I can think about the music and not the process.

I’ve also been about which DAW can be as fast and inspiring as the OP-1 F during the creation process. I’ve found that Drambo is probably it, and although it doesn’t really have the tape part, its sequencers auto-grow, so you’re not stuck in loops.

Interested to hear how your experiment goes. And of course I’ll have to check out Luna now

For better or worse, if you don’t have an Apollo sound card, I don’t think Luna works. UAD experimented with allowing all UAD-registered users to work with Luna, or maybe if you were a Spark subscriber or something, but when I decided to give it a go, I found no such options. They were very clear on this, that you need an Apollo to activate Luna, though you can run Luna without it once it’s installed and activated, as long as you run native stuff on it.

First, the track you posted abouve sounds really good. Good music, good production! :+1:

I also happen to have a DT/OP1F setup. Have you been able to sequencer and p-lock the 8 parameters of the OP1F synth engine & fx, then add a 2nd lfo, with tape sync and everything ?
Do you need a computer for that? (sorry, it might have been asked before)

i havent tried it in “prod” so to speak, typically OP1 LFO + further post processing is sufficient for what i have in mind. that said i have tested out the MIDI LFO on OP1 Field, to use the Digitone’s midi CCs to control OP1F parameters. works, in theory, but the knob ranges seem messed up. large ranges at the bottom and top of the Digitone pot are ignored by OP1F. it only picks up CC values in a narrow range in the middle. since the range it picks up is narrow, but accounts for the entire range of CC values, you get this really ugly stepwise sweep when rotating a pot - and lose your normal OP1 LFO on the synth patch!

Hi all,

I just updated the Field Broadcast Sound Pack for the OP-1 Field.

Changelog:

  • All samples are now normalised so should be as loud as the OP-1 Field presets.
  • Piano (Drum sampler) clicks reduced by using Nitro FX and a shorter release.
  • 5 Bonus Synth Patches for the inconvenience.

I have send all the supporters an email. Enjoy!

Edit: I’ve send another email with the updated sound pack attached which should make things a little easier. Cheers!

I found your sample packs already really good and inspiring but thanks a lot for that!

Thanks! I got some complaints about the sounds being to soft compared to the presets as well as complaints about the drum sampler clicks which I can’t do much about, but I’ve tried my best to make it less apparent.

I hope to update the Field Modulation and Cassette pack soon as well and give away a couple of new patches while I am at it

Please tell me, I can drop 1 second that I lifted from the tape, onto one key in the drum sampler…

I recall the workflow on the OG being, that you hold down the key you want to drop on.

This doesn’t seem to work, and it just overwrites the sample in the kit on the first key.
