Quick question…since it has USB midi, can I hook up my Pyramid to it and sequence the internal synths??? That would be nice if I find internal sounds to use with my other gear.
Is there a proper OP 1f video tutorial yet, or is it similar enough to the original that I can just watch older tutorials?
The basic workflow is very similar to the original. Red Means Recording has a whole series of tutorials that cover a lot of ground.
Thanks for this heads up, I ordered one from them just now cause of it! Now I need to get a case/decksaver for it…
Edit: Oh, I have the OG op1 case and decksaver, looks like those will work!
Desksaver fits perfectly, old cases might be a bit tight because of the new power switch.
Should work fine. I connected my linnstrument via USB and the op-1f received all midi notes and velocity without any problems. You can only play one instrument (synth or drum) at a time though.
TE are apparently working on an app to create drum sample kits on the computer. The preset kits do sound really nice and I think I’ll just be tweaking and using them until TE release the app.
yeah I might do the same. what do you mean with tweaking? fx? start/end points editing? there is not much you can do right?
Other question: some synth patches/presets seem louder than others. is it possible to set the volume per preset? how?
Mine came in today
First impressions are good
Was thinking of selling the OG-OP1.
but now I started to doubt, there are some things I preferred on the OG OP-1, soms sounds seem a bit beefier, and I actually prefer some visuals over the new ones too (GUI). Especially the new DNA synth, its not a visual improvement imo!
I can’t decide whether to keep the og either. I think I’m going to for now. I may want that sound at some point or might want to use it with the new one. Tonight, I’m setting up to run guitar through Microcosm then into op-1f. Or I may run guitar into op-z (with digdugdiy op-z I/O) then use op-z line module to send and return Microcosm then send all that to op-1f via usb. That way I can use the op-z Tape track to do some mangling before sending audio to op-1f. It’s getting quite complicated as I write what I’m thinking. I will share.
Yeah, with tweaking I just meant adjusting the volume and panning of the individual slices, copying the slices I like over the ones I don’t for some volume variations, adjusting the FX and LFO settings.
You can alter the volume of the synth patches by going to the second synth page (envelope), pressing shift and turning the orange knob.
Hmm i just can’t justify keeping both i guess. It will be collecting too much dust and worth too much to keep for sentimental reasons.
By the way i have an external mini jack antenna which i used on the og OP1 for better radio reception, is this still possible (and necessary?) on the field?
So far i’ve only got the OP-1 field to work properly with USB Audio with the OP-Z. (audio goes both ways) The Dirtywave M8 is able to send audio via USB to the OP1-f, but not receive it (also doesn’t receive from OPZ, but does from a PC)… The Digitakt I can’t get to work at all with it (works with PC). I guess each device manages audio over USB in their own way?
I can confirm what you say regarding the m8. The op-1f gets the audio from the m8 via USB, but I couldn’t do it the other way around. I also couldn’t get midi to work between the two via USB.
Hi.
Can someone explain how recorded material into the tape works.
Say, I come up with a 12 bar sequence using my pyramid midi out to my Matrixbrute and Deepmind. I like the beat and want to record it into the OP-1 to add some drums to it from inside the OP1.
I assume I just record it to one of the tape tracks and then use the others for whatever. Can I use effects on the recorded track? Can I go to the 13th bar in the OP and add some internal synth sounds on that same track?
I will use the OP standalone at times and maybe as a sound source with my pyramid but also interested in recording into it…just want to check how it works and if it degrades the sound much?
It works as you describe and as far as I can tell, the op-1f records the sounds exactly as they come in, no degradation or loss in quality (at least on the studio tape mode). You can’t put an effect on the incoming audio though, you’d have to resample this through the master fx of the op-1f internally.
Red means recording goes over how the tape functions on the original op-1 and its basically works the same on the op-1f, although everything is stereo, there are 8 tape reels and 4 tape modes. But the workflow is essentially the same:
Okay so I discovered the following: When I run my guitar into the op-1 field’s input and try to record video using op-1 field usb into Apple CCK into iPhone, the input is noisy and sounds horrible. I even used one of those little boxes (can’t remember the name but it’s supposed to get rid of noise)but it still sounds awful. If I don’t have anything in the op-1f input, everything works fine. I’m wondering if turning off usb charging will do the trick. Any advice? This is really pissing me off. I set up all this gear downstairs on the piano and it looked really cool and now this stupid noise. When I unplugged the usb cable from the phone, no noise with guitar plugged in. I just wanted to make a video damnit.
thats advanced, wow, would like to see that video!
noob question: can you delete synth patches/presets from the OP-1f? or only when connecting to a laptop/computer?
Shouldn’t need it. IIRC, the FM antenna in the Field is internal. Might want to check the manual to make sure I’m not making crap up again, though!
