TE are just a first mover with, according to all their PR, virtually a new flagship platform that they say they are dedicated to putting a lot of future development into.
The really big firms might be able to sustain mass production plastic pricing but every smaller firm is going to be raising their prices.
I can’t imagine the underlying base component manufacturers are ever going to return to ‘cheap as chips’ production of the past, nor are custom milled metal cases or software developers once we get through this wave of inflation. The populist politicians of the West fought hard to make themselves great again and repatriate low cost component imports to return to an illogically expensive domestic widgets manufacturing base that nobody wants to get out of bed to support or pay realistic prices for, the economic geniuses that they are…
If there ever is an Octatrack 2 it won’t be far off Field pricing. Rytm mk II is only €300 under €2k
yeah please report back on this
Soon as my OP-1f shows up I’ll do some test fitting and report back. If I’m not feeling too lazy, I might make a whole post out of it with pictures and everything.
Got the notification this AM. Ordered on the 12th - NY Time.

Posted this over on OP-1 Forums. I was in a rush so it’s fairly poor in every way. Feel free to ask me questions about the cases or the OP-1f.
Also a few first thoughts on the field. Pretty much all the sounds across the board are much “richer.” I watched some of the comparison videos and it’s even more apparent in-person, especially listening to the original side by side.
The the key press feel isn’t hugely different but the build quality seems better. They’re not near a clacky or plasticy feeling. I will say that some of them do click/pop if you press them off center which my original never did. Someone else posted a video demonstrating this and it’s a bit disappointing on a product at this price point. Oh, and none of mine are crooked.
The volume pot feels much better. My original one is very wobbly and has a rough feel when turning. The knob on the field is tight and smooth. The encoders have a similar improvement to the keybed. They just feel tighter and of better quality the the originals.
The 1.1.4 update added a saturation boost option when turning the brightness up past 100. This makes quite a difference in the perceived brightness and probably helps a bit with readability in bright conditions that some were worried about.
Great job! Thanks! I actually like the box OP-1f was delivered in. But a case that could fit a charging cable and small headphones would be nice.
My dreamcase would be a hard plastic case with space for cables, small headphones and TX-6.
Nice work BerkleyJ. I might go for one of the last two cases. Probably the DJ2GO2 case, but perhaps substitute in a thinner layer of foam.
I just got mine yesterday.
The packing case is cute, and works as a standby until you find something else, for sure.
I have a “SAND” orange case for the OP-1 I got years ago from a company I can’t remember now — some kind of nylon on the outside, felt on the inside, nice clasp, zipper pouch for cables. The OP-1f fits perfectly, and the power switch seems protected. If others know what I’m talking about, please post a link…
Maybe this? Always attracted to this one…

Nope. Thanks, though! That’s the one that turned up when I tried to figure out which one I have.
That one looks nice too, though. But my wife says I already have too many cases, and I suppose she’s right.
(But the original OP-1 is out a case now that I have the OP-1f. Hmm…)

Perhaps?
Nice find!! That’s the one.
I wanna know what this man thinks about the op1 field and its innovative msrp
Enough with the price discussion already. It’s been done to death. If it was such a crazy price, it wouldn’t have sold out already. (Eg the TX-6 Field hasn’t sold out) In my country the RRP of the OP-1 Field is about three years worth of Adobe Creative Cloud - which is just software with no physical manufacturing costs. At the end of the three years you have nothing. OP-1 original got 10 years of updates.
Apologies for above rant. Anyway - apparently the TX-6 Field mixer DOES have a hidden Easter Egg game. So I find it suspicious the OP-1 Field does not. I wanted an OP-1 ten years ago but only got it last year. Does anyone know when Choplifter was discovered in OP-1? I’m wondering if it was there day one or if it appeared in an update. Maybe I should have bought a PlayDate after all
This ship has long since sailed, but it would have been great if price discussion was moved to a separate thread.
Oh dope, been wondering what the Easter egg was couldn’t figure out how to get it.
I think the OP-1 always had the chopper lifter game.
This isn’t evidence of that but this video back from the end of 2012 had images of it I think the OP-1 was about a year old at that point
Agreed. I’m happy to remove my post above if people wish. I’ve already blocked one member from this thread myself as I just didn’t think it was contributing anything logical. But yeah I’m not going to troll feed from now on myself.
New firmware 1.1.6 released today with some good bug fixes.
