I am trying to record internally with these settings.
TRIG = one2
INAB = -
INCD = -
SRC3 = Main’
RLEN = max
QREC= PLEN
I have recorded 6 samples on six different tracks , 4bars long each. I just want to resample them so they are all in one track and exactly 24bars. Then I can play them all from one track using slices.
But when ever I hit the record button I get no audio recorded. I am pusing the AB record button to sample. I ma thinking because I have AB set to [-] maybe that’s why.
So my question is what button do I hit to start sampling SRC3, I have tried hitting that midi button , but that just takes me into the midi tracks…
You could use recorder trigs. I find this much easier for making sample chains, or resampling.
Place your recorder trig on step one. In Control memory menu, increase reserve memory to maximum.
TRIG- One.
INAB -
INCD-
SRC3 Main
RLEN MAX
QREC OFF.
Set master sequencer length to 384 (you want 24 four bars of recording so 16x24 =384 steps)
hit play. Remove your recorder trig after recording has started. (or have it set as a one shot recorder trig)
You have to press Track + Midi to stop SRC3 recording. I guess you are in PERSONALIZE > QUICK REC mode ? That option is not great with SRC3 and OT MKI.
Do you use 6 x 4 bars chained patterns or a pattern with 1/8 scale to resample the 6 recordings ?
Instead of max Recording Length, I’d set Memory Config > Dynamic Record = Yes, so that you’ll be able to record with max availble memory.
TRIG = ONE2
QREC = 384
Start Recording with rec trig or one shot trig. To stop the recording press Track + Midi twice, out of REC SETUP or Grid Recording Off.
You have to press twice when the recording started with a rec / os trig, otherwise 1 suffice.
*The only way to stop recording automatically is to use a defined RLEN (64 steps max, not dependent on scale settings), or use midi tracks to send appropriate messages, with midi loopback.
If you want to use the quick rec mode (like I always do), you have to be in the rec setup menu (function +rec ab) for the midi button to work as record button for src3 (with the one/two setting) on mk1.
Sezare is spot on ofcourse, but I dont like to use 2 hands or fingers to start sampling.
I use one hand and 2 fingers (or my nose? ) but I can understand.
To make Midi button work, you have to be in REC SETUP modes and with GRID RECORDING OFF! Too risky, warping my head if I want to place a rec trig…
The fact that I can switch to midi mode by mistake or miss my records made me forget Quick mode.
Kinda stuck with quick mode, but im always manual sampling, so that works for me. Maybe I should try placing rec trigs more often, always forget about those .
I had lots of trouble getting sampling right in the beginning, but once setup right for your preferences, octatrack is a sampling beast.
Different tools for different jobs.
If I am sampling some vinyl or radio to chop up later, manual sampling works best for me.
If I am resampling in a live performance context, recorder trigs are the way for me.
Making sample chains, or resampling for later use, recorder trigs mean I have to spend less time trimming the samples.
I dont use quick mode for similar reasons as sezare56.
Thanks guys. This thread really helped. In particular the tip from Sezare regarding hitting TRACK + MIDI button twice to stop the recording (if track was started by a trig). That one sorted me out!
Maybe I never really understood the advantage of rec trigs though. Whats the advantage of arming a rec-trig or manually starting the recording quantized to the beat/bar? (Except for crazy sequenced recordings and stuff)
IS it a way to automate futur slicing writing during a recording ?
I know I hope so much
Like if I want a slice on a recording, all 3 beats.
Or should I go in the edit menu ?
I dont like this menu so much
What about start points? 0, 32, 64, 96 corresponds to 4 slices.
Slices are additional markers, you have to create them in the AED Slice menu or with Octachainer /Octaedit. You can have pre-slices samples, you can reorganise slice order of a sample resampling it with new start / slice points, but slices have to be created once.
