So I’ve had my new Octatrack for 2 weeks now and have been debating if I should return it after messing with the sampling end of this deep, dark machine and it not really clicking for me. Yesterday I bypassed my I Connect 4 and daisy chained my gear up; Octatrack>A4>Pulse 2>MicroKorg and dove into the Midi sequencing end and oh my, this is what I was looking for!! Crazy sequences started running, sounding very much like the results I get using the Spectrum 2 Midi program that mimics the Nortron Lactronic. So, after that you can pry the Octatrack from my cold dead hands!! RESULT!
I think many of us were in a similar position to be honest. I almost gave up on mine until I got a few cheap desktop units and started sequencing them and my iPad.
The rest of the OT still confuses often but Im much more tolerable of it and know I would be sad to part with it despite not being at all productive on the thing!!! I can get a new idea into a listenable state without much hassle when working ITB but OTB with the Elektron gear all I ever do is jam inconherently!!! It’s fun though so can’t complain!!!
Sounded something like this;
I THINK EVERYONE HAS THEIR AHA MOMENT AND THEN IT BECMOES NUMBER ONE
I have felt this way about every Elektron box I own. The OT in particular. Doesn’t help that Elektron renamed all the sequencer parameters even tho they are mostly the same as the parameters on the other boxes. I find 2 weeks to be about that magic point when hate turns to love
Spent 5 hours remixing a track with the OT and some headphones on the sofa last night. Felt like 5 minutes. I didn’t want to switch off but it was getting late.
…oh, we had no fun at all for weeks…
and i was about to give it away again, too…
now?..i gonna buy another one for back up…
