Have a great weekend!
my big disappointment after watching the video and reading the various posts on the forum is:
Why Elekton has not developed the Model Cycles further and instead released new products (Syntakt , Digitakt 2, Digitone 2 and Tonverk that is still unfinished) and constant firmware updates even of very old machines ( A4) when the Model Cycles had all the processing power to have amazing new features?
I do not have the answer.
Funny that ezbot as someone who uses Ot for ages didn’t once mention modded ot with ability to open 8 channel usb audio streaming and ob8 usage that people were asking and said it can’t be done.
Nothing more then what was said on this forum already.
He’s being very biased considering he’s very invested in this company and make living out of teaching with elektron devices, which i can understand, so yeah.
They’ve kinda explained it in their latest statement: just because a device can theoretically do something doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.
Just imagine navigating the complex functions of a Tonverk or Digitone with the M:C interface. Doesn’t take much imagination to see why they didn’t do that. There’s also no way the M:C could handle TV multisamples etc. The Models were more simple and fun devices by design.
You also have to consider that Elektron always designs their boxes to be as reliable, fast and stable when pushed to the absolute extreme as when used only simply. That sometimes means less features, but it’s also why power users love the devices and what got them here in the first place.
i think it would have been easy to develpoe new and “easy” to use machines and firmware additions for the model series. this was more a strategic move.
Yes, but:
Just because something works as a hack doesn’t mean it works reliably in every situation.
I can’t see the models being too profitable at all. Id wager they’re a bit of a loss leader, get newcomers into the ecosystem so they wanna upgrade to a digi or whatever. the fact there’s been no real updates speaks to that.
so putting limited resources into stuff that can’t keep them afloat would as a business model end up meaning that elektron wouldn’t exist in the future.
that said, they really should have added an amp envelope attack parameter. seriously like, wtf ![]()
when I told my mate the about the new cycles firmware the other day first thing he said was omg did they add attack parameter? I was like “yup”. was top of my list too ![]()
Yeah and that’s my point, why Elektron has not, while other people did?
the answer now is starting to take shape
Btw I am not whining, just reflecting.
They made the DN2 and DT2 instead. It’s in the format that’s the most popular one in the Elektron range. They’re selling pretty well and are beloved by most users. Suggesting they should have packed these into the least beloved interface with that tiny screen to let people dive 12 pages deep while trying to understand what the hell is happening is just ridiculous. They are a business and want to make money, but also sell stuff that works and is fun to users.
I think it will get there eventually, if people working on it put time and will into making it work. Like Elektron did with their Sid machine.
I don’t know enough (basically nothing
) about what’s going on under the hood of Elektron boxes to make any assumption about that.
It would be great if you’re right, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if there’s just not enough bandwidth to have the OT firing on all cylinders with scenes, p-locks and switching parts etc. and then also have a reliable continuous usb-audio stream going on.
I think the bugs will be ironed out eventually. That doesn’t mean elektron were holding out on us, it’s just not reasonable to compare the work of 10+ people using 2026 frontier AI to a small company coding by hand, trying to deliver stable products and running a business.
All good. Let’s get back to music making ![]()

i dont think he is suggesting they should have put all that stuff in. think of a few more machines tailered to the cycles for example. or an attack envelope. small stuff. they didnt do anything on the model after releasing. thats not typical for elektron and not clear why they did that
I think it’s pretty clear:
yeah, i also think they didnt want to inverst more
but the resoning behind is not so clear. the models keep beeing popular on thoman till today. i made me guess that they dont do anything because they sell anyway. and there could also some internal stuff be involved. maybe people left etc.
i still want to make the point that you can do another machine or a attack envelope with keeping it simple and hands on and thats what people where talking about here
Well it is obvious that in a small business you need to allocate your heads to develop products that generates higher sales value- this is across alla sectors really
I think some people forget that
a) AI coding of this niveau is a recent thing, how could Elektron have done it before it existed?
b) up to that point, everybody was hating against those who use AI. Now the tide has turned, and people hate against people who dont’t use AI.
