I respect the policy, however the more I think about it I’m not so sure that it is for the good of the forum or Elektron if it steers users away to other places to discuss it. Obviously the rapid rise of these alt firmwares emerging is an unprecedented challenge for gear companies, and I suspect it is quite difficult to manage and adapt to.
To be clear I am not moaning about it, I removed my post as soon as there was any doubt that it was allowed, and now I won’t post anything else related to alt firmware features, but now I will be looking elsewhere to discuss this kind of stuff, because it is interesting to me.
Strong role model post.
Fuck man if @castor is telling me off it’s time to go back to bed innit.
I’m more a roll top model.
Hopefully Elektron might get involved with some of these developers in a similar way to the way they did with the MD alt firmware. But of course a legacy machine and currently in production products are not the same thing, so it could be tricky to implement such a strategy.

Slowing this topic down a bit for now to help keep it from drifting into banter and while policy interpretation is being refined.
These “developers?” Do you mean Claude? Or do you mean the people hacking a companies IP and uploading it to Claude together with some prompts?
If you’re just adding X to Y with zero creative input, you’re just just a meat puppet between Claude and Elektrons IP
No offence…
Do you not think the actual designers and extremely talented developers at Elektron has access to Claude themselves? Do you not think they listen to feature requests and prioritizes them against their own product vision and business goals?
Man… it seems like some of you spamming the forum think you’re the CEO or something
This is largely how I’ve interpreted the rule. But I get why some might not have.
The feature request threads feel kinda silly now tbh.
Just came here to say that I’ve tried some of the modded OT firmware a few times. The new features are great but the device keeps glitching and crashing. Maybe one day they will be better, but I’ve gotten a bit skeptical. Until then I see very little use for an unstable firmware on a device I need to be stable.
Well…
One area I’m not sure about, but could represent a quick win: what’s the policy around posting links to mod-friendly forums while redirecting conversations?
For example, Ableton’s Discord doesn’t allow discussions on Schwung, but whenever someone starts one, they redirect it to the Schwung Discord rather than just shutting it down. I think it’s a decent compromise — it keeps their official server official without making it seem like Ableton “has their head in the sand” regarding unofficial mods. And if someone is interested in Schwung, they get a direct link rather than guessing queries in an external search engine.
Given that these LLM-driven hacks are infiltrating every corner of the Internet, I’m sure it won’t be long before adware and malware distributors start abusing music tech SEO like they already do for gaming mods…
thanks. i dont read other forums so was curious about stability.
This brings up another issue that I pointed out upthread but has got vanished into the aether.
Due to the ambiguity in discussing custom firmware:
Negative comments about experiences of custom firmware could be allowed as they do not fall in the bucket of “active encouragement” (quite the opposite)
Positive comments about experiences of custom firmware could be disallowed because they do fall in the bucket of “active encouragement” (regardless of how vague the poser is)
This is quite the quandary. As there will be times when empirical measurements are made and depending on what they show could be allowed or disallowed. The example that was used previously was users concerned about additional processor loads and if that would have deleterious effects on the hardware.
Under the “you can only report negative results” forum goers can speculate/report on the downside but not the opposite, even if what is being reported are objective measurements.
and I return to the fact that this all gets solved with a “don’t talk about features that are not in the official released firmware” that would cover anyone talking about experience or measurement, good or bad.
