Not sure what you mean there?
I was just joking around, because I also think that the Digitone is so much more fun than that A4. So when I read the title, I was like, duh!
Oh I see!
Yeah since I go the Digitone, the A4 is collecting dust somewhat.
Snippets of two Digitone-only jams …
As video:
(On the second one, the Envelopes and LFOs do all the “sequencing”, the sequencer tracks have just one step on the “1”. [except the hihat ])
Edit: Put DN together with ST for that one:
It’s so good to hear people making some gnar on this thing!!
How do you all feel now about the new DN2 when compared to A4?
It’s faster to create drums.
I love having 16 tracks and 16 voices. It’s not in the way anymore.
I find it easier to synthesize sounds on DNII.
Programming chords is also a very good asset for DNII.
More modulations on A4.
Performance macros and Direct Jump.
Plockable FX track.
I prefer A4 to DT2, even tho dt2 is clearly incredible.
there’s something about the A4 ui that I connect with more than any other piece of gear. love it to bits.
But wait for the syntakt 2!
Hmmm, thinking about picking a Digitone MK1 as they go for peanuts at the moment.
I already have a Rythm MK2 Hydra, Peak and Se-02.
So this is pure GAS and curiosity.
Might be cool to bring for live gigs and The Rytm and other synths will make up for the failing tracks.
Don’t need a version 2.
For the price difference it is easier to pich up and try a Digitone MK1 instead of a A4.
If you don’t like it you can easily resell it.
Great thing about the A4 is having so many modulation sources pre routed that don’t eat your LFOs so you will have the LFOs in addition to that.
Haven’t found another synth to match this many possibilities with still being able to keep track of what I’m doing.
I love it but I tend to use more immediate synths at the moment prioritizing musical ideas over sound design so I find myself using the digitone (which can also go quite deep) more often but even more I use hands on synths like SH01a, Prologue, Minilogue, JU06a, matriarch. Still prefer the Elektron sequencing and song mode to sketch out ideas and to get back to topic, for handling other gear via midi (cv is another story) the digitone (even more Mk2) has more to offer than A4.
I’d really love a Syntakt 2 keeping its easy to use sound design and midi track capabilities with the next gen 128 steps sequencer.
But I think the DN2 does a great job for easy sound design with some of its machines and has those midi machines too so if a Syntakt 2 or and analog 4 mk2 (or better analog 6 or 8 pleeaaassee 🥹) I would have a really hard time to decide between them as I tend to use one Elektron at a time.
I returned my dn2 and prefer my a4-2
Sounds warmer, better fx and perfect for sampling into my Dt ll
Aren’t these exactly the same FX as on the digis? With the bonus of an FX track of course.
Same but you can modulate them via plocks, lfos etc
Edit : the delay also have an additional overdrive that can blow your speakers
Can confirm. My first and only gig at Berghain.
Exactly the overdrive and fx sequencer and lfo’s
My problem with DN1 was getting it to fit in a mix with other units. It was always so clear and forward in the mix. I’ve heard other people here make the same complaint and I never could really counter it. The A4 for me has the opposite problem. The filter does not have a lot of character. Great for background parts and subdued bass. Not good for in your face parts.
Still, DN is a lot of fun. Great for making those strange sounds and noises that you can cover with reverb and delay effects. Very good for those background sounds that make someone go “Hey? What was that fire sound? How did you do that?”
