Well, this is the second ep I’ve made since selling my hardware and switching to an ITB workflow centered around a Push 2. When I got the Push back in December it has been a long time since I had actually made stuff inside Ableton, it’s taken a bit to get used to but I tend to like sorta shiney very digital synth sounds so it works for me in that regard. There are more presets on this release than I have used in the past, it feels a little weird if I sit and think about it, but I was in a mode where my focus was really on writing and I just wanted sounds to play with, so I picked them rather than making them, not every sound is a preset but there’s definitely a fair amount of em. I use the wavetable synth a lot, and most of my bread and butter type sounds come from the m4l synths Poli and Bass.
Random tidbit about my process, I often make music with movies on screen in the background, usually horror or sci-fi, By Dawn was called that because I was watching the Evil Dead remake.
